exercise i do a bit,but what i see people do in gyms is basically a waste of time.

i hate the gyms, and only use on real bad weather days

always have energy for exercise after work even if i have to force myself, and when i do train i train for a reason, and not just to say ive ran for a hour

probably do between 8-15 hours a week

8weekly

You'll have to explain what you mean by training for a reason. Don't we all? To keep fit, to live longer, to lose weight, to get faster a Parkrun.... whatever.

yep, must people go for a run just to say i can run, well it aint hard is it,when in fact its just a little bit fast than what they walk and they think that they burnt hundreds of calories

train for a reason means training smart  ;)

so many people waste time doing hours and hours and getting nowhere, when if you knew some basics you get a lot fitter, quicker, lose weight quicker and run faster quicker

8-15 hours a week is overkill for most of us mere mortals!2-3 hours a week in the gym(cycling/weights/swimming)is plenty for me as well as window cleaning, taking the dog for walks and playing drums.

i feel loads better than i did a few months ago,ive lost some weight and i can see the changes in my body now.fitter/trimmer,etc. :)

its obvious your an exercise nut franky.i hope your recovery is going well.take it easy mate. :)

daz

i was once not far off 17 stone  and only 5ft 8" so was well over weight so i know how hard it is to get fit

so it can be done and the rewards are great,3-4 bike rides for me takes me up to 8-10hours easy and this is my social life,i dont drink or smoke and dont that often go to a pub only for family/friends meals

i would hit 15 hours if i was training hard for somthing  so that would be the max,i dont train every day either but aim for 4-5days at 2hours   and still have time for family life

actually, I think I overtrained last week  :o
Had a terrible ride yesterday, my legs were dead really struggled up the hills. Mind you I was on my Hooligan and had sex every night for the last fortnight.

This hooligan you have sex with every night, who is he?  Is he a cleaner from this forum?  There's a few hooligans around here.

8-15 hours of endurance exercise is different to a few hours going anetobic in tje gym. Both will get you fit. But define fit? Weight? Muscle mass ? Muscular endurance ? Aerobic capacity? .

If you're goal is weight loss it can be done with as little as a few hours a week. The less time you have the more intense a workout you need to do.

I must be lucky, I don't exercise other than walking the dog and a bit of rock climbing. Eat as much as I like when I like and never put on weight. Lucky my body has good metabolism. Always done Kung Fu and Judo from a very early age which put me in good stead for later years so never had a problem with weight ever.

4 months on from my first post on this and im going 3 times a week weight training at the gym for 80-90 min sessions(including  cycling warm up,stretching,ab work).i never miss a workout.

my aim is to build more muscle and im starting to see real changes in my arms, chest, legs, abs.my diet is mainly a bodybuilding diet with plenty of lean meats, fish, eggs, low fat dairy, protein shakes, creatine, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, brown rice, fruit and vegetables with a few cheat meals here and there and then eat what i want on a sunday. ;D

i wish id started this years ago!im loving it. :)

i didnt think i could feel this well in my forties this time last year!

If you're into it that much, Daz, you might find it easier to do a three day 'push, pull, and legs' cycle, where you gym it everyday, but you'd spend less time than 80-90 mins at a go.

And another benefit of doing it like that is that you can maintain a high-intensity workout for a short period of time, but with longer workouts, towards the end, your intensity will decrease.

I only do three gym sessions a week; but I'm not after being a body builder; I use it to supplement my running.

im doing 3 full body workouts per week tosh(with at least a day off in between workouts) and happy with the results for sure but next week ill have to do 2 consecutive days due to family commitments/leeds festival next weekend so ill work upper body one day, legs the next.

my current routine is

20-30 mins warm up(stationary bike, yoga stretching and ab work)

an hour weight training with  free weights dumbbells/barbells,cables,some machines.working all muscle groups.

im adding a bit of extra weight approx every 2 weeks as im getting used to training.

ive started mixing it up a bit each session(both high reps, lighter weight and low reps/heavier weights).

i find my intensity is fine as long as im not in the gym longer than 90 mins.plenty of carbs 2 hours before training and a cup of coffee half hour before gym.

no running for me but i walk the dog for 3 or 4 hours a week too. ;D

Rather then concentrating on a total body workout on each workout, focus more on certain muscle groups.
My workout consists of
Sunday- total arm workout
Monday- total leg workout
Tuesday- biceps and back
Wednesday- abs and forearm's
Thursday- triceps and shoulders
Fri-sat- rest

I spend 45 mins max in the gym per session doing high intensity super sets. You don't need to do anymore then that or you can actually end up burning muscle.
Also you don't need much carbs,  just the right amount to cover for your energy requirements, iv cut most of it out of my diet and concentrate on high quality proteins and nutrition instead. To much carbs can be a bad thing.
Optimum nutrition 100% gold standard whey is fantastic straight after a workout, especially mixed with pure coconut milk and a handful of spinach for iron.
Iv grown my 💪 by nearly 3 inches in 4 months, whilst reducing my body fat and leaning out at the same time.

For a job like ours it really does help being in good physical shape.
You can use any brush you like without crying about the weight for starters ;)

I would say if you have been going a while and can manage a full body workout 3 x a week then you probably arent going intense enough per muscle group.

Full body workouts are great at first, but as your body adapts and each muscle group requires more weight, sets  and exercises it should be impossible to complete a full body workout.

you definately should start to split it up.

could be push/pull, upper/lower, 3 day, 4 day or 5 day splits, theres a whole load of different ways you can split it.

i stopped bodybuilding years ago and now my passion is cycling, 3-4 days a week. i do however do 2 sessions a week mainly upper body, high rep sets with a cardion focus. Dont want to build lots of muscle just keep looking decent main focus is cycling
