exercise,diet and WFP window cleaning
« on: April 21, 2016, 06:57:22 pm »
ive been going to the gym twice a week(wed/sat)for an hour at a time doing cycling/weights (and finishing off with a swim if the pools not too busy).yoga every morning before work.ive also cut out the junk food(takeaways/crisps/chocolate/sweets etc)and instead eating good clean food(wholegrains, lean meat/fish and plenty of fruit and vegetables)and i feel great!ive lost a bit of weight too.  :)

i also play drums every week as most of your know so thats another few hours of exercise!

the problem with WFP window cleaning is that its just not enough to keep me trim working 30-35 hours a week esp with ultra lightweight poles and brushes and microbore.when i was running up and down ladders all day it was a different story!but im not going back to ladders!

i feel more like 34 than 44 at the moment!long may it continue!

has any of you guys noticed that WFP cleaning isnt keeping you trim like ladders used to do?

Good to hear that you're keeping fit Daz  ;)

I have never worked on ladders like you and others on this forum, however having been using WFP for just 1 to 2 days per week in the last year I have lost a stone in weight (now down to 13 stone). As well as improving physical well-being I think window cleaning can also improve your mental well being since you're out and about talking/joking with customers rather than stuck in an office.

ive never worked in an office mate. ;D

ive always worked outside either window cleaning, landscape gardening, farms or nursery work(plants and trees etc).

it was hard enough keeping me in the classroom at school without bunking off! ;D

I'm with you Daz,
I've just turned 51 and go to the gym on a regular basis and work around 7 hours per day on the glass. Come 3pm I've had enough. The lad that works for me is 20 and some days he says he's knackered! He doesn't know how easy he's got it. No ladder work, I use the 25/35 length poles and he has all the easy work slx18.

Ive gone from years of parking in one spot for day and carrying ladders on shoulder with one arm, ducking n diving under washing lines and other obstacles and lugging a heavy oblong bucket of water with the other. The ladder had mits on and mine were perfect height for my rounds. Didnt need to extend them much as the height just sat nicely under the sills. With mits on, i‘ld be half way up ladders before they rested on the house. When car died, i used to trek for an hr on some rounds lugging equipment with me.........
Now, i drive in van, pull up and drag xamount of hose out and wiggle a light weight pole n brush at the windows. My fitness since june last yr has severely nose dived

The problem is (was ? )you're consuming more calories than you burn. You'll say..can't run on an empty tank...etc.. (i'll bet !!!). You've overfilled the tank, and going the Gym etc....is like running the engine for a bit to get it down the neck of the tank, to a respectable and safe level.  Just don't top it up so much, then you can do more Yoga.   ;D

Daz, you're getting older mate. You older you get, the harder it is to keep trim.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Bought myself some new running trainers yesterday (first pair ever to be precise). Might take them back to the shop for a refund as they didn't work very well. 😂

Gone 3 months with zero exercise and it showed. Couldn't even manage a 5k run on the treadmill.

Twice a week going to the gym and cutting out junk food isnt going to keep you trim necarcarily.

I cycle 3-4 times a week for 2-4 hours a time but my weight stays roughly the same.

calories in vs calories out as simple as that.

doesnt matter what you do for a job. monitor your daily calorie intake then reduce it until you start to lose weight. Wfp isnt as calorie intensive as ladder work, well done sherlock so just cut your cals more then.

ive just got back from band rehearsal and im pretty tired now after 3 hours drumming! ;D

gym twice a week for an hour at a time is defo getting me in shape.once a week is not enough.twice is just right as it gives me chance for my muscles to recover.with an already busy lifestyle its working well for me at 44 years of age. :)

You're only 44, mate; it's nothing these days.  40 years ago, asbestosis, miner's Pneumoconiosis, or just plain old smoking would've meant you're almost dead; but now 40 is the new 25, mate.

Wor Lass is nearly your age and she's running 60 to 70 miles a week and doing Insanity workouts on top of that.  In two weeks she's doing a 12 hour running event (running for 12 hours non-stop) and in July she's doing the same, but for 24 hours; she expects to do at least 100 miles on that event; hopefully 120 miles.

I think she's the fittest window cleaner I know!  ;D

But my, if she works past 3.00 pm, she gets all narky and her nose starts bleeding.

Me?  I do the odd parkrun. ;D
