John guest fittings imperial and metric
« on: April 21, 2016, 07:05:47 am »
If I have 3/8" tubing and fittings and want to extend tubing, use elbows etc.,  can I use john guest 10mm - is it the same as john guest 3/8"?

Good morning,

Unfortunately this is not possible - whilst the tube may fit, under pressure they will weep.

We have 3/8" fittings in stock if you require any.

No, but you can find adapters to swap.  I've managed to get our setup tot he point where all fittings are metric.

Poor advice from me.  There is a 1/2" to 15mm adapter

http://www.abbeychart.co.uk/john-guest-15mm-pushfit-x-1-2-pushfit-straight-connector

But not 3/8" to 10mm

They do hundreds of fittings on there so you could doubtless bodge 3/8 to 15mm then buy 15mm to 10mm

http://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-pem061510wp-straight-reducer-15-x-10mm/89950

My preferred solution is to fit every single pipe in 15mm JG.  It's readily available and cheap.  So, instead of 1/2" bsp to 1/2" JG pipe out of the RO, we use a 1/2" bsp to 15mm fitting (from Screwfix).   It means a bit of thought and a little more cost but it all becomes much more maintainable.  The final spot where we still have to go 1/2" is for the inline TDS meters (so two of the converters above and three inches of 1/2" pipe) but I think we have that fixed and every single item can be 15mm.   We also carry spares of every single connector - much easier if all 15mm.

Give me a shout if you want to talk it over.  Best to email and I'll call you or you'll get the answering service.

Vin
