Domain name...... Scam?
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:19:59 pm »

Trying to work out if this is some form of phishing scam but not so sure, they are only asking me to reply to email and let them know.

My guess is they will either try and get me to pay a fee to stop this, or it could be genuine I guess?

Anyone had anything similar? This is a new one to me.

Yes its a scam, I had similiar a couple of years ago, I just ignored & after a few emails from them they gave up..... Although I did panic when I 1st got the email. ???
When a domain is registered its yours, unless term runs out or you sell/transfer it to someone else.

Thanks mate.

I'm guessing if I went down the route of replying it would go somewhere along the lines of "for just £89 we can sort this for you" lol.

Glad to know it's not just me that's had this.

Anyone can register (buy) an available domain name whatever the prefix is. However I'm aware if you own a .co.uk domain name then they will not allow anyone else take up the .uk one.

More like that email is a scam to get you interested to buy up other derivatives of the same website name. Then promptly disappear with yer cash, credit card details, personal data etc.

Authorised by the Chinese’s government my arse  ;D
