Replacing O Clips
« on: April 08, 2016, 04:34:06 pm »
So i use the Pure Freedom Pole Flow Control Valve, and a few weeks ago i had a kink in the hose which was spewing water out.  It took me ages and was a right pain to get the O clip off to then put some new hose on without any kinks in.  I ended up slightly damaging the control valve where the O clips go onto just because i was really rough with it as i was struggling to get the clip off.  Is there an easy or straight forward to take O clips off?  For some reason whenever i do it, it's a right pain!

I use mole grips (v hard to do with pliers) across the widest part of the O Clip, i.e. so they are crushing the O Clip where it's been pinched.  As it is pushed back towards the fitting, the O clip widens.

Hard to explain.  If you took the O clip with its bulges to the three o'clock position (or 9 and 3 if it's a double pincher) then you'd be applying force inwards at the 9 and 3 position using mole grips .   As they move inwards, the six o'clock and 12 o'clock sections move outwards, making it easier to remove.

I like this idea for the metal fittings. It sounds pretty quick

I use a nylon adapter that Gardiner supplies to connect my pole hose to a male hozelock fitting so I've been cutting mine off with a rechargeable dremel with a cutting disc fitted.

As above
Hacksaw , pliers or the crimps smd crimp the Ear bit (sides) and rotate / twist the end and it eventually comes away

The o rings sold by exceed innovative double sided one are easier to remove, Gardners single sided ones more difficult
I carry couple spares everything, so I will just cut all offending or damaged parts of f and  refit new parts Then at home in the vice I remove o rings and pop parts back I spare bag
