business or customer mindset
« on: April 07, 2016, 09:51:21 am »

Lots of debates on here about pricing. Some have mind set of actually being a customer and what they are prepared to pay and some have business mind set. Both are respectful to the owners and build a relationship up. Sometimes the price is govern by the cost of living and economic climate, but these are variable.
So heres an house I picked up today thats within one of my rounds. Socurious to kno what prices different ones would quote..

Hard to believe how tiny the houses are that they are building now.
Living space is getting smaller and smaller.
There are some I know who have to keep the hoover and kids toys in the car or store belongings at their parents place 'cos their house is so tiny.
You'd struggle to keep it at £10 round here without being undercut.
I'd go for £8 for a shoebox like that!

What window cleaning frequency are we talking here?

Also what other services apart from window cleaning do they want doing as I can see at least 3 more revenue streams there to keep the property looking smart & well maintained?

As you can probably tell I’m not just any old window cleaner that focus solely on just cleaning glass.  ;D

If you worry to much on pricing what you think people are prepared to pay you can end up undercharging what the job is really worth no matter how small a property is. Some are happy to pay more and others are not so it don't really matter where you live to be honest.

My minimum price is £8 so that's what I would charge for a property like that providing I could get more in the area.
Wouldn't want it as a stand alone.

We've got a few like that but a normal small window lower front instead of the bay, £20 8 weekly.

Agree houses are getting ridiculously small.

£18 six weekly, £27 twelve weekly.

And before anyone bleats that I won't get it at that price, I already know that we probably won't get it.  They'll have seen our prices on leaflet or web and won't have even asked us.

However, the right person (who's been let down by a dozen pikey, sweaty-white-T-shirted, tracksuit-wearing-bottom-feeders who come when they are out of the nick or when the weather's good or when they need beer money) may well call us.  Then everyone will be happy.  They'll get their windows done, we'll get paid well.

It's got to be business mindset. We run businesses.

I've got a job where the customers moved house and bought their mums place that I used to clean for £40, they extended it and put in lots of new windows and doors etc.

The new price is £50.

We did it Monday, the guy got the right hump saying I was robbing him for £50 for 20mins work. He got pretty rude and was being a right pillock. He's always been like that but this time said that's it he's getting a new window cleaner bla bla. So why would I want to run my business with his mindset?

He is a builder though and they are all generally uptight 'the world owes me something how dare anyone earn money' types.

It would have to come in at my minimum charge so if my minimum was £2 that's what it would be,if I thought I was taking the p£££ to much on my lowest price I wouldn't do it. If they had a roof though I'd have to do that for free 😘

Good post Vin. It's all about pre qualifying enquiries for sure and weeding out the timewasters

I especially liked the second paragraph as that did make me chuckle  ;D

FIRST CLEAN £20 no matter what frequency he chose.

he went for trimonthly.

The most I've quoted for a one-off exterior only window clean on that size property was £65 and got it too as no other cleaner in the area wanted to do a one-off end of tenancy window clean apparently. More fool them as was easy money  ;D

You make more money if its bi-monthly, ie £18.00, a £ 1 less per month at £10.00 per month, so keeps you in the ballpark with competition but may seem a better option to the customer and for the time it takes you will make on it............just my opinion :)

Some good responses on thia  :)

Its in an area full of window cleaners, some pro and some,,,, well,,,, less pro shall we say. Im thankfull that I have the majority so spend 2 days in the estate. So this isnt out my way and very close to o es that I do. Ive charged 10 on a 4wkly rotation as all my work is. Previous cleaner was charging £5, so quite a jump. But shes seen me be regular (she shud have ive been there 14 yrs lol) and professional and she realises she gets what you pay for.
Yes potential to add other services to lool after the property as well. So as many on this thread say, we run a business and need to be business minded and not put ofby what others Iin the area charge and yes customers will pay. Esp if theyve had less professional ones in before.
Thanks guys

As a person who took 80% of my work from other shiners I never ignore my competition, not so much on what they charge
but what they offer.
I never knowingly undercut I just offer better for the money and customers will move for that.

We'd be £15 monthly or £20 2 monthly for that locally. Outskirts would be £20 or £25.
