Anyone have any advise how to free a stuck neck on a gardiners slx
Have tried two people twisting and pulling,but it wont come out.
Any tricks or tips please

I've had this problem before with my CLX. However using builders gloves (see link below) I managed to get a better grip on the pole and eventually twist the neck out. I have filed down the plastic neck shaft that goes into the pole & no problems now.

Funny enough I've used me thermal gloves from screwfix to do exactly the same thing when me carbon guttervac poles get stuck together  http://www.screwfix.com/p/skytec-argon-thermal-grip-gloves-black-large/76311

Thanks for replies,tried all suggestions,non of them worked
 ...so I got a hammer and kept tapping it quite hard, until it eventually came out.
Fitted the new neck and it just slides in and out easily,no idea why the old one was so reluctant.

Yep had that problem to, tried n tried with 2 of us, in the end I clamped it in my work mate with the  pole horizontal i tightened the clamps  very gently until the pole couldn't spin and then slowly twisted the neck, came out pretty easy and once out I also filed  the neck shaft down a bit. All good now

I got so fed up of having to do something that should have been simple and easy that I lost my rag smashed the whole lot to pieces with a club hammer and then drove backwards and forwards over it with the van. Yeah, I know, what a childish thing to do.

I then bought a new section and a neck but sanded down the neck first. Same for quick lock adapters. I've had no problem since then.

Makes me think that if I found the solution why didn't Gardiner's as it has often been a problem that has been posted on here before.

In my van I've two old pre sanded quick lock adapters firmly stuck to brushes as well. Sort of defeats the term 'quick lock'.

'Permanent lock' maybe a better term.

It could well be that I don't know something about tolerances etc or the manufacturing of the components or something else.

Before switching to Gardiner's poles I used crappy Ionics and I never had the same problem with their poles. I had plenty of other problems, but not changing the goose necks over.

Yes noticed that the first batch  Quick- LoQ were a tight fit.
And sanded them down a little.
However if you have one stuck in .
Found getting a heat gun on low setting heat all around it should come out.

Don't think it's Gardiners fault it's whoever makes the parts. They must have tolerance issues. Some of my resinecks have been fine whilst others were much too fat.

Doesn't help the OP but you can prevent problems by using a tiny smear of Copaslip before you insert the neck.

Glad you have got the old one out  Always annoying when a part jams in use.

When a part is assembled and then perhaps not taken apart for a while (perhaps several years) a build-up of dirt, or heat/cold (which can expand or contract the plastic) or moisture can contribute to one of these jamming in the pole. Like anything assembled it is good practice to take it apart every couple of months to check over and clean. This can help prevent a long term jam when in use.

Occasionally the tolerances on one of these parts can be slightly tight which increases the chance of this. Fortunately with over 20,000 of these supplied each year the occasions that this happens is a very low percentage - if it does happen to you (or anyone else) please get in contact with us and we will be happy to assist.

Out of interest how old are the plastic goosenecks that posters are referring to?

simple consistent maintenance for future reference, but to solve issue is found simple warm up small amount of cooking oil and I mean warm not hot, then good pair of gloves and pour a little into stuck area leave it a bit to penatrate then it should loosen, the only time I've had this is from early one Alex sent me that I had to make groves in it to stop it slipping as it was totally smooth being early model, but never had it on finished items only the early model, so Alex was there a difference in plastics then, my eyes tell me yes but I only came up with solution idea to stop spinning as it was totally smooth and my grove gave you the idea for your version of grip, but I see plastic look different but couldn't say what only Alex will have the answer, for interested the early model is still in daily use today so it's a product that was built to last.

Yes, I must admit it was probably lack of maintenance,we usually change poles every year and I doubt the neck had ever been removed in its lifetime

I bought two direct from your website in Jan 2015 (or there abouts) and two from Panama Janitorial Supplies in Hove, East Sussex, in Sept 2015 (or there abouts).

Of the two I bought in Jan 2015, one was fine in a CLX 4 but not in an SLX30. The other got stuck in both the CLX 4 and the SLX30.

The two I bought form Panama, both got stuck in both poles which was annoying because I bought replacements thinking the problem had been solved. It has now though, with sandpaper.

With regards the poles themselves. Cannot fault them in any way. The new clamps - brilliant.
