What with lots of firemen moonlighting as window cleaners. Do any full time cleaners have the contact to clean their local firestation?

I know firemen do many things but not bumped into one yet that cleans windows on their rest days.

Almost every fireman I have known has done "cash jobs" on their days off, including window cleaning.

I know firemen are brave and all that but there seems to be a lot of moaning about pay and conditions compared with say a front line paramedic girlie who has to save lives in a different way.

Firefighters have a bad rep for moonlighting. Although there are probably plenty out there who work for "cash", the ones I know run very professional outfits in things such as tree surgery, electrical, plumbing etc.

To answer your question, the contract for the firestations in my locale are put out to tender by the local authority.

its about time they clamped down on them working extra hours as there off to comply with hse so that they can fire fight  and be safe not be tired putting themselves and the people there saveing at harms way

I am employed by a Brigade in a support role (equipment maintenance).

What part of HSE do firefighters comply with ?

Anybody has the right to have more than one job (armed forces excluded) , i know several people that have 3 jobs .

Especially from someone who has admitted on here that they overload there vans and have a quick emptying valve fitted in case they are stopped by vosa!

The ambulance service is in an awful state , we we work closely with them and are going to be taking some of there calls soon .

They have been on strike quite a few times actually and , quite rightly , they do moan .

Ours get put out to tender as they have to be. They get done one or twice a year which I pointless and whichever company comes and does it is useless. They do a awful job but as usual in the fire service they have to get the cheapest job and dont care if it's a good job. Same with and building or decorating that gets done which is rare.

Oh and for whoever thinks we moan more than the paramedics well a lot of brigades are now doing co responding. So as well as having had our numbers slashed so even a small house fire becomes a lot more dangerous for us as well as car crashes flooding fishing dead bodies out of rivers rescuing people from height using line equipment people trapped pretty much anywhere. People locked out of their houses. People locked in their houses. Shut in lifts. A lot of firefighters now have to go to supposedly just the red calls for the ambulance because they can't keep up with the numbers. But in reality we are going to pretty much anything the paramedics haven't  got an ambulance to go to. Have you noticed the number of firefighters being killed and the increase in fire deaths over the last few years.

Don't mean to be rude but that's utter bull and quite offensive .

Window cleaning doesn't affect my firefighting one bit .

What does it matter to you what the fella you know spends his money on ?

I have a friend who earns 25 grand a year as a bus driver and had just bought a brand new A class Mercedes .
