I cut the black hose, attached a female hoselock fitting and just plug and un-plug the male attachement when I want to move the back pack.
It's simple and it works.
I think it works for me because I use an Unger Pole with Ionics hose. The hose is outside the pole; giving you extra reach for your hose length; and because the hose is top quality, it's easy to 'nip' to stop your water flow when you want to.
In my opinion, an Unger Pole and Ionics hose were made for the backpack.
The pole is really light too; you only require the first two sections for most first floor work; much lighter than an 18ft fibre glass pole.
