Just had the police round my house 8pm

Got caught speeding again   :o

31mph in a 20mph zone. Wondered why those pensioners were pointing at my van the other week.  :-[

Said I was a naughty boy basically because I'd been caught before. Do it again and they will put a marker on my van. Whatever that means.

20 mph speed limit is there for a good reason Dave.

I have two lads that are paramedics that have to deal with the aftermath of speeding drivers, kids getting run over etc so I don't have any sympathy whatsoever for people who get fined for speeding. I’m sure the coppers that knocked on your door don’t either.

A marker means your van is put onto the police database and flagged up every time your van is pinged by a police car.
Trust me you don't want them to do that as you will be for ever stopped by the fuzz and given a hard time.

20 mph reduces the injury and death rate. It doesn't stop the majority of the reasons most pedestrians get hit by a vehicle.

It doesn't stop people from crossing a road without being carefull. How about a fine for them as well for causing their own accident?

With the greatest respect to your lads I do believe that - at least in Bristol - some of the 20 mph limits are ridiculous. I fully agree with it in back streets but in some wide connecting roads 20 mph is put in without any real reason. Also the 20 mph round many schools could be timed at say 8.00 - 9.00 am and 3.00 - 4.00 pm .

"Round my way" there is a real anomaly actually within the Bristol City boundaries where a short stretch of road about half a mile in length is still national speed limit at 60 mph and it comes to a screeching (near) halt at a 20 mph 200 yards from a special needs school.

I my view this road should have a max of 40 mph.

On the other hand a wide residential road about a mile long is limited to 20 mph, not due to any school but "just because".

It's jobsworth-ism at it's height.

It's a game of three halves!

Yes, it's a funny old world. My wife works in a large Supermarket, they get the usual alcoholics drive in reeking of booze. The staff know who they are, know their registration numbers, what days they turn up and how much drink they buy. Police won't  touch them - they haven't got the resources!
Fail to drop your speed enough as you pass the 20mph sign which is way outside of the village and you're done for. Next time you drive at night look at how many defective vehicles are on the road with one headlight  :o

But does anyone actually do 20 mph? I tested it out once by driving at 20 down blackberry hill and soon had a string of cars behind me

It's alright, I'm hooked on Samsung gear vr at the mo.
Now I just need someone to create a window cleaning robot that I can control from the comfort of my own sofa.

Yes, which is harassment.

A mate of mine bought a 2nd hand car from a local dealer and within a couple of weeks he'd been stopped by the cops 3 times.  The third time the copper let it slip that there was a marker on the vehicle (apparently previously owned by a druggie) and when he asked how it could get taken off the cop laughed and said "no chance mate!"

After a long and arduous battle with the police, he eventually got a solicitor involved who advised he sue the police for harassment, which he started to do.

Immediately the cops offered to settle out-of-court for £5,000 and to remove the marker immediately, Which he accepted.

They cannot use arbitrarily putting a 'marker' on someone's vehicle as method of punishment, and they know that any court would come down hard on them, as it is clearly harassment, and to threaten it is against professional standards.

This 'marker' is intended as an investigatory tool, not a punishment, and the police cannot use it as a means to harass people.

I would report that copper to the force's professional standards department for using the threat of a marker as punishment, as it's pretty outrageous and they are not supposed to do it.

I think you will find they can and do for persistent speeding offenders all within the law.
One of my  lads also bought a car from a dealer and was stopped actualy in the ambulance station where he works due to a marker pinged by a police car. The marker was removed that same day after he stepped out of the car with his paramedic uniform on and explaind he had just bought the car.

It would be a bit pointless though wouldn't it, from an investigatory point of view. Why stop a "persistent speeding offender" if he isn't speeding? It can only be construed as harassment and that is illegal.

I believe there is a group of people who faked the moon landings (done in the same studio as Capricorn 1), 9/11 (which actually didn't even happen, the twin towers are still there but hidden by a secret special mirror array) and quashed the electric car (that's why they've lowered fuel prices for a few months).

Them's the ones wot will put a marker on Dave's van and that copper was a lizard-man.
