As the title says do you use an rcd on your gutter vac?

And what length reel do you find the best for domestics ?

I carry 25 and 45m cable reels in the van depending on the size of the jobs I'm doing.
If you leave a lot of cable on a reel with say a 3000 watt vac running  it can get very hot so most reels have a built in heat trips that will cut the power off when it reaches a critical temp.  It's up to the individual if they also use an rcd or not but some rcd's will keep tripping out depending on the type/power of the vac being used.

I've been using extensions without an rcd but been a bit worried that a downpour could trip the customers power. Mr smith who works from home wouldn't be happy loosing his days computer work.  8)

Just buy an RCD socket from screwfix or wherever only about a tenner, I use one every time I use an extension lead.
The thermal cutout on the extension lead won't stop you getting an electrical shock, but an RCD will.

1. I always use an RCD and a temp cut out reel.

2. I always unwind the entire reel no matter how much i need to do the job, as said the reel can get very hot if not unwound even on our Numatic 2400w.

We use a 25m reel for all domestics. If the cable won't reach around the property entirely we just move it as nessercary.
