pencil or fan
« on: February 21, 2016, 10:25:44 am »
This may have been covered but i don fancy trawling through the many pages on here.
I use four pencils on a slimline dual brush. Yes there are many brushes and lighter ones etc etc and in short space of 8 months i have tried many, esp light weight gardiner brushes, but im happy with the one i have and speed of four pencil jets. Im now wondering if fan jets are better n wondered what the general consensus is?? As i was originally put of fan jets when first set up, due to some advice from another wfp cleaner.  Do u guys swear by pencil or jets? Or is it dependant upon the work? Mine is all residential.
Thanks in advance of any advice

I used to use pencils, then tried fans, didn't like them or didn't know how to use them ( up the flow!) so went back to pencils, now iv gone back to fans!  ;D
I only use 2 though, how come you use 4?- do you use a lot of water per day?

I fancied trying it. I used 2 pencil jets on a flow speed of 14 and then as gained more experience n confidence with wfp thought i would try out different options. So with 4 pencils had to increase flow speed to 24/25 to get even flow thru pencils. Yet rinse is quicker n better and im finding im using less water. So thinking 2 fans would give wider rinse n be as quick

Personally I put very little thought or effort into rinsing just a quick z down the glass after the scrub, so as long as
the jets don't leave any beads of water where I don't want them to be left then I'm happy enough.
Pencils do that for me so have never seen the need to change.

You will find many debates for and against, some valid some not so,

You need to use what your most comfortable with, for me I'd never use or go back to pencil jets.

If you try them get decent ones - lumark blue or direct from spray tips black ones, these fan properly and right across the brush head.

Don't buy the brass ones the quality is very poor and the gardiners version is a compromise spray that doesn't fully utilise the advantages of fan jets ( more of a pencil with a bit of debris causing the water to spray in a small arc

I polled this question a few years ago: http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=149767

The franchisees and I all use fans and unflocked brushes.

Cheers guys, much appreciated. Esp smudger as I want to make sure I buy some quality fans if im gonna give it a try.
Also reckoned that brushes came with pencil jets as the norm and so to upgrade or stipulate fan jets, they must be better, hence upgrading.
So thinking on next brush, I'll give em a tryn see Iif its fans all the way or bk to pencil.
Cheers guys

Interesting, I have always used pencil jets, couldn't see no reason why a fan jet would make a difference.

A few weeks back was working and snapped me carbon goose neck, rang me mate who had a few spares and bought one off him, it came all set up with brush head so just connect hose up and off I went.

As it was fitted with fan jets, I was like wtf this will be garbage ............ I am now a fan jet fan !!!!!

It may just be me but it seems to clean debris and bird muck off better/easier so to say.

How do you feel about fan jet overspray when working a top frame as in bringing down muck from the joint of the frame to the masonry?
It's a game of three halves!

I just use fans now. The only pencils i use is just where i havn't changed the brush over yet. I was nearly put off using fans at first as i got the Gardiners ones which where a clear plastic at first, and they are really no different than a pencil jet. I now have the red fans from Gardiners and find them great. I've not tried any others. As said above....fans and a mono brush for me.

I don't have a problem with that. And also no problems with vents either. The jet of water is contained within the brush area.
