bumped into a few of them today! ;D

first one had written his business name in felt tip on the back of his jacket, tracksuit pants and trainers on tradding a fairly  large property(ground floor only as you need a 25ft pole fully extended to reach the first floor windows)his ladders cant reach the upper windows so he only cleans ground floor.not very friendly at all even though i was trying to have a bit of banter with them(there were 2 of them).it was pouring down with rain though!  ;D

then this afternoon i bumped into an old boy(pushing 70 and still tradding)ive known for years and he s adamant that wfp will be a thing of the past in the next few years and that his son(who has got most of his round now)should stay trad and that ive "got a lot to learn yet when it comes to window cleaning" even though ive picked up about 100 of his customers over the last few years at double and triple his prices! ;D

he also said "what an idiot cleaning windows in the rain with that stupid brush thing!"even though he d been working up a wet ladder using scrim and fairy  ;D

i didnt tell him id worked 9am-3pm (most of it in heavy rain) and earned £240,had 2 brews made for me,half hour for lunch and most customers paid me (most are retired wealthy folk on todays work.) ;D

thank god for wfp and altered attitudes! :)

You can do all the  ;D  idiocy in the world and boast about your "£240" earnings. However you are still In the same trade and as far as I can tell you live hand to mouth. Always trying to save a few quid on this pole/ that pole. Also you rent your house don't you? At the age of 45 or something? The odd groupon 5 star hotel break with your "Mrs" really means nothing btw.

Idiot.
Very unnecassary and very untrue. Dazmond's has poles fit for a king!

yep still rent a small flat.i dont care about owning a property.i dont live hand to mouth anymore.i have 3 xtreme poles(two 25footers,a 47ft and a 22 slx.....oh and a clx 4. ;D hows that scrimping on poles? ;D

im not "looking down my nose" at them at all but they are dumb and ignorant in regards to wfp for sure.another window cleaner saying "ive got a lot to learn" in regards to window cleaning(after being in this game for 23 years)is laughable! :)

I am still trad after 19 years, and have no intention of changing. I am 54 this year, and sometimes (especially after the wettest winter in Ireland in living memory, and that's saying something), I am living hand to mouth.

Most guys here will say that I am a failure, and should do this, or not do that, or be earning x amount.

Do I care? Not a bit. When times are a little tougher, it is a reminder to continue to be content with what I have and never to take anything for granted. And my customers are a good barometer as to how satisfied they are with me and the quality of my work.

I am genuinely happy that you have done well Daz, and I always enjoy reading your posts as they are invariably positive.

What makes us different though is that I am happy to do my job the traditional way, although I am not knocking wfp or anyone who uses it in any way (having never used it I am not qualified to make a comparison with any fairness and I am sure it is excellent in the right hands).   I am just not ambitious or looking to make lots of money. I do ok, and that is good enough for me.  :)

Dazmond, my critique was a bit harsh. Sorry. You do give an aura of being very content, but sometimes it comes across as quite smug?

Have a good day.

Johnny I have never been a full time traditional cleaner so cant compare the other way but I have two mates who have been
traditional cleaners for over 20 years and they don't make any less than they would on the pole, like most sensible shiners
they have looked into the option with an open mind they don't deny its up to the job or that its a safer method but cant see it making them anymore profit so have stayed traditional.
Now we could all say they're fools for not taking the safer option but then that's their choice to make but to say its only possible
to make a good living using wfp is utter nonsense so keep on doing what suits you.

To be fair on Dazmond I think these guys just rubbed him up the wrong way and he decided to let rip which is surprising as its
virtually impossible to wind him up on here and believe me its not for the lack of trying on my part.
Well at least we now know that he does have emotions and not from the planet Vulcan as I was beginning to suspect. ;D

Oh well they obviously are happy and like to do it their way so that still don't make them dumb or ignorant surely no matter what you may think?

no there ignorant at the very least.the 70 yrs olds son fell off his ladder last year and hurt is ankle and was off for 3-4 weeks and still thinks trad is the best way for his son.ive even seen him using ladders with rungs missing! ;D

I'm guessing his son is no spring chicken either but still if they are happy doing trad via ladders still that is up to them surely so should be no concern of yours.

I do have my own views on trad vs wfp method but to call trad only cleaners dumb and ignorant is out of order. Now go and sit on the naughty step you bad boy.

Sounds like he's dug himself into a hole and he hasn't got the wit or time left to climb out of it. It's a shame he can't see a better future for his son.

John I know you say your happy m8 cleaning traditionally but honestly it's a lot easier going around colouring in Windows with water.I saw a shiner on Monday in the freezing cold with 4-5 scrims hanging off him and he looked miserable, you say your happy but take it from me you'll be even happier with a pole I would seriously have to consider what I was going to do if I had to go back. Not knocking you m8 most of us have all been there but do yourself a favour.

Strangely enough I don't mind the cold. I'd rather it be near freezing and dry than wet and warm! I was out on Monday and everyone was saying how cold it was, I was warm as toast!

I have looked into changing over, but it looks too complicated for my very simple mind and I don't cope well with things breaking! I am also old fashioned at heart (probably should have been born 100 years earlier)!

I do appreciate your comments, they are very positive and helpful (yes really), it's just that I am too far gone now!

Best wishes,

John.

It's never too late Johnny, you have my utmost respect for the way you conduct yourself on here and how you go about your business, but NWH is correct, your working day would be so much easier on the pole, you would get through your work much quicker giving you more free time. It is daunting to begin with but if I can do it anyone can do it ;)
