OH Great Joy.....
« on: February 07, 2016, 11:30:49 am »
Went to customer on recommendation, 10 yr old large 3/4 seater and 3 seater settee DFS, with pillow backs plain neutral cover few spots and marks. Lovly lady says she had a quote from a chap that had cleaned a neighbours upholstery, and price had suprised her. I thought upps, gonna be a cheepie. Asked her what she had been quoted and happily delighted to hear Her say £500. pounds, yep, five hundred pounds to clean the sofas! At last someone who is much more expensive than me, well done that man, and welldone for getting the neighbours( done )at  that sort of price.Time to put my prices up......

Was she elderly? Perhaps he was trying  rip her off because she was elderly.

£500 is usually too expensive for a suite ...... to say 'well done' of getting that price might be saying 'well done' for being a rip off crook

That is roughly £70 a seat, perhaps it was cleaned and protected. I know some who charge £50 per seat and then 50% on top to protect in that case £475.00.

I did sarcasticly mean well done in the sense that its pretty hard to justify that price, and the customer I saw lives in an affluent part of Bristol in Her earl 40s  and hubby chartered surveyor proffesional type but not daft.

£475 - £500 for a suite. These types of customers are very few and far in between. I wonder how much they charge for carpets...

I've got a feeling that these cleaners only have these prices for selective customers i.e. nice address, nice cars in the drive, BOOM!! And probably charge more reasonable prices for everyone else.

It would take such a long time (like years and years!) and A LOT of money in marketing/branding to build up a decent client base that you'll have probably giving up trading by that stage as you'd be too quite.

You must take care with seniors its really sad that we now have many illnesses that affect them. I had one call me that was convinced that she had booked me and the guy that was standing with her was an imposter ( I have my photo on the site) This guy had drove many miles for the job and was not pleased with the situation. I had a word with him and explain the point that I making here. His answer was but I drove all this way, that was not helpful. people not only seniors get confused. when you think most call around unless they are taking detailed notes how can they remember who said what, another reason to send out conformation on all booking, and info like the consumers guides on quotes.
