Hi,

I did a course where these were used once. I think doing it on scraps of carpets is ok, but I think you'd need nerves of steel to use on a customers carpet.

The course was at Alltec, about 15 years ago ,ran by a bloke wearing a bandana (no honestly!!)

They are ok on long pile carpet, more care needed on shorter pile and loops. A carpet fitters tool really, for repairing small burns etc. When I was fitting carpets, I was once asked to cut a number of Doggy stain out of a Mohair Wool long pile carpet and replace with pieces from a spare roll. I warned about the shade difference as the carpet was well faded in places. Anyway I did the job. The faded light blue carpet now had darker round blue polka dots. She was happy all the same.

Think that guy was John "Pit Bull" Thompson.

Hi Steve,

I think you might be right, he was a fire and flood specialist I think, as well as being a carpet fitter...

Personally I think if this service was offered to the average domestic customer, they be pretty disappointed generally with the results...and probably wouldn't want to pay  very much to have it done.
