Fascia clean by hand
« on: January 30, 2016, 07:39:53 am »
Not something I normally do . But I've got a large detatched bungalow whose windows I've cleaned years . Anyway the old dear asked me to clean all the fascia and guttering . It's not been done in years . So I thought just get the pointer off and some cloths and cleaning product and elbow grease . So which is the best cleaning chemical and cloths to use on mingling plastic. Cheers barry

Steven if she has an outside tap connect it to your reel and pole it, I used to hand clean bungalows just because I didn't
find much difference time wise when using pumped pure from the van, there just wasn't enough pressure.
There's no way I would hand clean one again plus no chemicals needed the tap pressure just blasts them clean with a light scrub.

I agree with Sean on this one!
Although I would use a chemical. I like Virosol ( neat, sprayed on brush, rub in, clean off).
I've been using Tadghs Nuclean recently which is a metabolic cleaner and the results are excellent. Brings the plastics up really well.

As SeanK has mentioned using a wfp connected to an outside tap with a high flow rate and brushing is a relatively quick way to remove surface grime, green algae etc. However it will not remove ingrained staining on white plastic gutters, fascias and soffits. Some also use pressure washing method as is quicker but has its drawbacks. Sometimes you can get away just using these methods but if badly discoloured stained plastic still remains visible then the use of chems/upvc cleaners and good old fashioned elbow grease is what is called for to get good results.

Be mindful  If using a strong alkaline cleaners like virosol as depending on how strong the mix it can actual stain white plastic and is near impossible to remove.

Does Nuclean remove staining  (tiger stripes etc) without having to use elbow grease Rigsby?

If want to  do it by hand via ladder and want to get stuff local then try Flash concentrated all purpose cleaner I find works quite well. Also you could try any kind of dish soap or maybe none caustic TFR (trafic film remover)
For staining (tiger stripes) then a UPVC cream cleaner would do
None scratch pot scrubber (the type they sell in packs with white pads and sponge backs)
Magic erasers used wet but don't last very long.
Microfiber cloths
Bucket of hot water
A chepo telescopic brush would also come in handy too

This is another example of simple way to do it if ladder access is an issue using TFR applied with flat long bristle broom and rinsed off with a garden hose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9tRCCtCubI

virosol and wfp is the easiest quickest way but if you want to make the job longer and harder carry on with a ladder and cloths. ::)roll

How is using wfp NOT simple on gutters and fascias? you can run around the house with your brush on the gutters scrubbing away- how many times are you gonna have to go up and down the ladder? is there a good reason why you want to drag the job out?

Anyhow as I say to the ladies you can't beat a good hand job missus when me pole is too big to fit in the gap  8)

Like dazmond said Virosol & WFP is the best and quickest way to clean Fascia, before i went WFP nearly 4
years ago, i cleaned the SFG on a detached bungalow by hand off a ladder, they were rotten dirty, plus the
windows it took me the best part of an afternoon to finish, i was totally knackered.
since going WFP i have cleaned loads of SFG jobs using  virosol & WFP in a fraction of the time it would
  against doing it by hand.

yep ive done the same before as well mate.

i dont even plug into customers outside taps either half the time these days.its quicker to just use my pure, its even better if you have hot water.they are a doddle with wfp.
