so my hyvent north face jacket has had it after nearly 2 years use.itll still get used for walking the dog but i need another one for work.this cost me £100 so not too bad.

ive just ordered another north face one but goretex this time.£162.hopefully ill get 2 years out of it.

i looked at loads this morning on various websites but lots didnt have my size(XXL) plus i dont want a long one just one that goes up to waist height.

what good waterproofs do you use?

i bought some sprayway all day rain pants nearly 2 years ago which are great in the summer months as their very lightweight and keep you bone dry and cool.they were nt cheap though(i think i paid £80 for em).i also have a few pairs of ski pants for winter use from TKMAXX which are cheapish(£30-£40 a pair)and a couple of pairs of craghopper solar drys.i also have a few pairs of standard work combats from b&q(not waterproof though).

Go Outdoors tend to do decent prices on good brands. I tend to pay decent money for my rain gear.
Montane do good waterproof pants for about £50-60. Quite tough, last well. Lightweight.
North Face summit series  are quality, you can get some bargains on eBay if you've checked out the gear in the shop first ( size and quality).
Haglöfs are quality. Had an Endo jacket for 3yrs now and still life in it. Just tech wash it every so often with nikwax.
I found Craghoppers are total tat as they drop to bits within a few months in my experience.

I don't bother most of my custys are mythering gets if you clean in the rain ive onley a few that are ok so I avoid confruntation

I bought two Trespass with company logo waterproof jackets in January last year for £40 each. Both are stil perfectly fine. I can't see the point of top of the range jackets for work. I occasionally climb a flat roof not Scafell Pike!

ive had cheap trespass jackets before and they DONT keep you dry and you sweat like a pig in them.no thanks!

when your working for  hours in the rain you need something better IMO.

Paramo for 10deg and above
And buffalo mountain shirt for 10deg and below
Both aren't cheap but mine are over 10 years old .

I tore my waterproof over trousers  when trying to put them on the other day. I know that they'll be no good in warmer weather but during this cold snap I've been roasty toasty and completely dry! I look like a Telly tubby right enough but hey who cares?

Well I've always stayed dry in mine. Mind you, I don't live in Manchester.

Buffalo jacket for me, but then I'm not daft enough to stand in the rain all day.

I have a buffalo belay jacket as Dave, fairly pleased with it.

Just been wearing t shirt or long sleeve thermal top underneath warm, jacket is not bulky which is good and waterproof.

Only thing that p's me off is small holes appeared in right pocket lining must email them to moan, jacket £90 so not cheap.

i have tried a few jackets over the years and currently have a Helly Hansen windbreaker/rain jacket (about a year old) and a North face tri-climate jacket too (3 years and going).

i only wear these when the conditions are tough and generally wear my branded Regatta jacket daily.  All 3 are waterproof to a certain degree.  in heavy rain they all leak at the stitching. 

best I've found for Really heavy rain and jet washing is plastic poncho's, i bought a pack of 10 for about £5.00. and keep them in the van.  if its really heavy  rain on a job where it simply doesn't matter like jet washing then i put one on and bin it when I'm done.

id be interested in a pair of water proof trousers myself.

the thing is i destroy waterproof shell jackets after about 18 months-2 years.even the expensive ones lose their ability to keep you dry no matter what you do with them after a while.then the zips break and holes appear in the pockets.

were all being ripped off with these jackets.if i buy the cheap jackets though they dont last 3 months and dont keep you dry at all.

If you don't mind wearing British Army Camo, then the Army Surplus stores sell well designed gortex pack lights. They are very waterproof with taped seams and extremely durable, no pockets though. I keep several sets of waterproofs in my van and if raining all day I will change a set mid morning then another after lunch which will take me through to 5pm our finishing time. very important to remember to take them home at the end of the day and get them dry for the following day. You wouldn't believe how many members of staff I've had over the years who'll leave them hanging in the back of the van soaking wet thinking they'll be bone dry by the morning

Mine do. I'm in the second year of mine and mine keeps me dry.  I just wouldn't trash a high quality hiking jacket.

i just wear swimming trunks (for modesty!) as I find my skin is very waterproof! Cover myself with goose grease in the winter when below -5! Pointless using anything else in Wales!
