I am toying with the idea of putting a second van on the road and employing 1 FT employee, I have the work there, my round is overflowing with work and new work and im working flat out to keep up, I dont mind being business but thinking maybe I could maximise my income with this with help from an employee

Now I know theres a fair bit of knowing what your at when it comes to employing and it would nearly put you off it the more you look into it! 

Im sure some on here have done the same and just wondering on any words of wisdom or advise they could offer?

I am trying to do an expense sheet to see how much a van and employee would cost me over the course of a year and im not getting to far with it tbh, I seen on here a while ago someone with a similar breakdown if anyone remembers it?

Full time then no change out of 25K

Wages £18K
Nat ins + pension extra £2K
Van and running £4K
Your time wiping his backside £1K
And he'll get at least 5 weeks off paid.

If he's good then hopefully you'll pay him an extra 5K in bonuses

Did all the maths and exc running costs it came out at just under 30k for the year (inc holidays, etc)

That 30k number I would say would be the minimum with all other expenses on top of wages etc,makes me laugh when some just think they have to find 50-60 a day to employ someone,I have just employed although not on Windows the paperwork my accountant has sent me is a joke it's more like reading a Novel paperwork upon paperwork. Add up the van and all other material expenses holiday pay pension contributions extra accountancy fees he will have to work non stop for 4 months before he earns you enough to buy a coffee lol.

Holiday pay isn't an expense so don't get caught out by it, decide what you can afford to pay your employee per hour and
then deduct a percentage of it to cover their holidays.
The employee makes up their holiday pay by time worked and will be only entitled to it when they have enough in the pot,
you can pay it out in advance but you don't have to.
Also remember if the employee hands in their notice they still might be owed some holiday pay that they have built up.

They still accrue holiday pay when on the sick Sean

Thanks for the info lads on breakdown costs which looking at would nearly scare you lol

I would have a fair bit of work to keep a new employee going but I would avail of canvassers to fill his schedule

I hadnt a clue what some of you were on about until Iooked into prev posts about being new, i didnt make that post i must report that to admin as it defo werent me,  i will be trading 4 years come this May

On that subject the employer now has to pay SSP which depending on weekly wage/ hours worked will in most cases be around £87 per week? which is tax deductible,  a while back you were able to claim all of the SSP back from your PAYE bill.

Yes hes a mate hes wanting to get into the cleaning i was showing him this site and showed him how to register, i logged out and let him work away but how he managed to post under my name i dont know he wouldnt know my login details i doubt he even remembers his own
