How to clean water tank???
« on: January 26, 2016, 08:13:50 am »
I have a 500 litre water tank in my garden which contains my purified water. Although i keep it covered with a tarp it has developed a green film on the bottom inside the tank. It doesn't seem to affect the purity of my water but  was wondering how to keep it clean. A drop of bleach perhaps?? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

My 400ltr tank is the same and it's kept in a windowless cabin for want of a better description. Doesn't appear to affect the quality of the water. I've not tried to clean it yet. I have found bleach works well at cleaning out algae from barrels but you do have to make sure you have thoroughly flushed them out before using them again.

Adding a few cup of bleach from time to time will keep your tank and water healthy don't even need to empty this water just use it ti clean and as long as its already been through the R O already  Dont put it through a ro.
BECAUSE BLEACH IS A GAS IT WILL EVAPOURATE OUT ON ITS OWN . I DO THIS TWICE A YEAR AND IT WORKS FINE.

The problem is that i have a second R/O fiter in my van that the water goes through to give it a final polish before it hits the window. So maybe bleach isnt a good idea  :-\

When I bleach out my barrels it loosens the algae and bleaches it at the same time, so I end up with lots of little pieces of bleached white algae floating round in the barrels.  I cannot use the water in my barrels until I've flushed them out and refilled them.

Does this not happen in your tank slap bash? Or do you bleach your tank as a matter of course and before the algae starts to show?
