Tim

when you quote you should leave a consumers guide it will cover all the problems that a customer might come up against. One thing you need to remember is that this customer all they know to judge by is price, so you have to give them lots of other things to make they mind up from. its called "ignorance"  the lack of knowledge or information, its your job to give them that knowledge and information.

What's wrong with £100....couple of hours work.
Easier than 3+1+1.

This time of year that is not a bad price (100 NOT 25) to keep working..

I used to think of a large number and double it for upholstery in the end... I hated doing it, so if I was going to do it, I wanted a ridiculous amount of cash... It was quite surprising how many customers accepted the high price...  :o :o

Why does time of the year alter prices?

If it's a quite time of year then more reason to you maximise the amount of money you walk out of the house with not be cutting it.

And the problem with £100 for a couple hour work is...... Well that question answers it's self. And by the time you have driven thier and driven away its 3hrs

Do you think the people charging £220 for this would look at the guy charging a £100 and think the same way as he does looking at the £25 guy? :P :P

The time of year has a lot to do with price if you are quiet...

I would rather walk out with £100 for 2 hours work than nothing at all....

But this is not about me... I don't do this any more, and I have said what I did about upholstery....
It is all horses for courses..... I just know that if it was quiet, I would not cut off my nose to spite my face....  :P :P

£100  for driving there and back, chems, insurance (van & business), cost to get that client, tax and your time (it may very well take longer than 2 hours)...what's your profit in that?

What a pile of crap!

you have your costs for the business whether you do this job or not,,,
The only cost involved in each individual job is Chems, fuel and time, and time is free!!

You cannot spout off about business costs like you have... because you pay them even if you sit on your ass all day long waiting for the jobs to come in..

If you have no work on, what is the point of being the most expensive upholstery cleaner in the area and not get any work?

There comes a time when you have to say bollox to your price principles, and compromise a bit..... Or be the most expensive cleaner out of business..

I know that is a bit black and white,but.. I am sure you know what I mean...

If I do 3 jobs in a day I bet I don't use even a gallon of fuel.

I did 3 bedrooms, a hall stairs landing and 4 dining chairs this morning in 2 hrs, should I have charged them £100 ?

Is £20 too cheap to clean a room? But I can do 3 in an hour which is £60/hr

My opinion of £50 an hour is based on the amount of cleaning I can do in an hours actual time on the wand if I am wanding for an hour then I want to earn £100 but this is not to say I earn £100/hr every hour I'm away from home. The same as if I'm spending 2 hrs cleaning upholstery  £100 is not enough no matter what time of year it is

£45  + per hour is a busy fool lol.
Unless you employ staff if £45 per hour is not enough to run your business then quite frankly you aren't running a business.

Depends...... did you only charge them £25??  :P

You are putting words in my mouth again Mike... You seem to like doing that...  ::)roll

You know what I was saying, and so I am not going to continue on this...

I am not going to argue with you Hector, i run my business the way i want and the way it works for me.

I agree with you... All I was saying is that the running costs of the business are the same, whether you go out and clean or sit on your rump all day watching the TV... and sometimes £100 in the pocket is better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick, if you have no work coming in.....

You can all charge what you like...... no skin off my nose... I breed and train birds now.... I am not a slave to carpet cleaning any more..
