Limewash cleaning with sugarsoap?
« on: January 18, 2016, 06:25:20 pm »
I have a customer with limewashed walls that go green with algae every year. Normally I fill my backpack with an anti-fungiside and spray/scrub the walls.
This year some builder has told her to clean the walls with sugarsoap  :-\
I'm guessing it's pretty alkaline and kills the algae. I don't fancy pumping standard sugarsoap through my pump cos it's full of granules.

Anyone else heard of this method? Don't like the sound of it myself so I've told her to try a test patch herself.

The Builder has probably said that as sugar soap has been used for donkeys years in the building trade.
I wouldn't be putting sugar soap through a pump either.
If your anti-fungicide is effective I would stick to that and tell the customer that's how it is.

Spray hypo and leave 10 mins and then rinse off .
Or buy proper Algea wash .

Just use a normal fungicide or bleach if you're able - Sugar Soap is only really for fine finishing work indoors

Don't you just love builders interfering as that's what they do best  ;D
To be honest if they where adamant and demanded sugar soap to be used I would say fare enough get your builder mate to do it instead then.

Just looked around the net and you can get it cheap in powder form.
