This may be stupid question but ill ask any way when I start my pump and vacs my pressure gauge reads 300psi but when I press my wand it drops 120psi so dose that mean am running at 300 or 120psmy machine runs at max 300psi.

300 willl be the static pressure, 120 is what is going through your jets.

Jet size will alter the pressure. I run 2 x 015 size and of my static is 250psi I get around 220 working pressure

That big a drop points to air in the system, unless you are using
some insane sized jets, your pump should be able to maintain as
close to static pressure as to be not noticeable. usually a dip and
returning to set pressure.
Also debris and wear in the poppet valves can give problems like
this.
air in the system is bad, as it causes cavitation in the pump head, which
can dramatically wear and pit the surfaces.
Check for loose pipe connections between the tank and pump, you may not
see signs of a leak, but air can be drawn in as it's easier for the pump to draw
air than water.

Just thought should of mentioned how old is the pump.
Wear in the eccentric cam and the piston where the bearing
pushes also can show these symptoms.
Due to wear the piston travel is less than it should be, so at static
ie no water flow from jets, it can maintain set pressure, spray and it
cannot, hence the drop.
Sounds like a good service is required, if the air leak proves not to be
the problem.

Its a very good question....

In your particular case you would need to set at 500 psi to hit the carpet at 300, which is pretty high in normal domestic conditions.

But would be interesting to hear what the more engineer minded have to say on this or even a supplier/manufacturer.

How many 015 jets have you got.
3 your pump should maintain set pressure.
4 you should be close to set pressure, anything over
about 20 - 30 psi drop tells you something is wrong, either
air leak, pump performance down due to wear and tear, or
poppet valve blocked from sealing properly, water starvation
from blocked tank filter or kinked pipe.
or over jetting.
When my Powrflites pumptec 205 is working properly, it can
maintain 700 psi through 3 x 015 jets, this is 200 psi over the
quoted figures from powrflite, but that is just the vageries of
reducing a 1000 psi pump down using spring pressure in an
unloader, a weaker spring would result in not reaching the quoted
figure.

Any kinks or leaks after the pump will only affect flow, not pressure.
The leak if any will be before the pump, not water leaking out but air
pulled in when water is flowing from the machine. Check how tight the
the pipes are attached.
If you have a leaky quick connect, replace it, it's not a major problem, but
your machine is your livelihood so look after it, be finickety, if something
is not perfect investigate why, and if it's essential to replace/repair, or just
wait until routine maintenance time.
Leaky quick connects often don't open properly, restricting flow.
