Just had a call from a lady who has a brand new carpet and has had it covered with the sticky plastic stuff that decorators use. When they took the first lot up, all the dust from the building work has stuck to the staircase so I`ve got to go and try and remove that and then clean all the other areas the minute it is taken off so hopefully the same thing wont happen again. I`ve had a few cases of this now where dirt has stuck to the carpet after the protector has been taken off. there`s got to be a fundimental problem with the product for this to happen hasn`t there? It`s a nightmare trying to get it off. Usually white spirit and a towel but got to be a bit careful with this one as it`s a looped pile and don`t want to make it fluffy!!

Depends on the sticky tape they have use. On commercials have used citrus gel and brush. You could use heat i.e. steam and a solvent

We had one this week. It had been on the carpet for 3 months  so even when it was  cleaned  we could still see where it had been left a line. But we removed the stickerness.

Had this a few times, the adhesive from the plastic sticks to the carpet and picks up the dirt like a magnet.

I normally find hot powerburst will bring it off or failing that some prochem bazooka gum spray.

Taking all the necessary precautions naturally and rinsing thoughly after......

Did one last week. They had stuck some carpet protector down for three days and then the stickiness was left on the carpet and was attracting all the dirt. You could see the lines where it had been. I used powerburst boosted with some  citrus from Prochem. Came out with the heat but you need heat on it otherwise it will not come off.

Not really fit for the purpous then is it?!!
This is about the forth time I`ve come across it.
A bit like Vanish carpet cleaner which bleaches pretty much every wool carpet it touches. Makes you wonder how they get away with it!!

The biggest challenge I have found is when they use the hard floor protector on carpets.

Some of the brands use a couple of manufacturers that use different tackifiers also so what can be fine in one instance isnt in the next when it comes to removal.

That said the best solution is as already suggested to use citrus pre-sprays or boosters and rinse well to remove.

An agitation pad under a rotary is also very useful to speed up the process.

We have tested a few of these and we sell the Glass, Hard Floor and Carpet Protector types and they are all different degrees of tackiness.  They are all different and we have never had a problem when we have removed it. We use the Original Roll & Stroll in all 3 types
