Blocked downpipe
« on: November 12, 2015, 09:59:48 pm »
Hope someone can help.

Friends live in a three storey Georgian (I think) property that has been split into a flat on each floor.  Anyway it is a substantial building.

They have a blocked downpipe which overflows when it rains.  Not something I've ever done so wondering how it is unblocked.  Would you poke a drain clearing rod upwards or try and vac from up top??

Anyway it is in Leamington Spa if anybody wants a job.  I'll pass any details on for a more detailed job spec from the friends.

I don't know what you charge Smurf but it wasn't that profitable lol
Anyway I went to have a look this afternoon and decided to do it there and then, someone had already tried a vac so I went out a velux onto the roof and used a hand snake which cleared most of the blockage but it was still abit slow so i ended up jetting it from the bottom.

More often than not rather than using a jetter a simple way is if custy has an outside tap is to just attach a garden hose with a cone nozzle onto a stripped down wfp. Then stick it into the downspout and turn the water on full pelt normally gets them clear and free flowing again.

Good idea that Smurf but probably wouldn't of worked on this one as it had four bends in and was blocked solid.

What something like this cast iron one...?

Yes it does  as the left aspect of that property had 5 bends in total including the end bend to the drain cover. Mind you as the bottom end was open I did eventualy stick me vac on that too as you do  ;D

Failing that I would have had to jet it through but lucky enough it did not take long to flush the blockage through. 8)
