New extreme poles.....
« on: November 04, 2015, 09:27:48 am »
So they have been announced and they clamp at any point now. Like an slx or any other pole for that matter ha.

I am just not sold on the way normal poles clamp though, the extreme is an incredible fast pole to extend and collapse.

I do a lot of new build housing and the extreme is great to use as the grit doesn't bind the pole up.

I have seen guys literally at each end of a pole pulling it apart due to grit!

A lot of people see top/middle/bottom clamping as a disadvantage. I think the opposite.

I will still buy one of course, and i hope i am wrong!

They are 5% lighter but i already know how that will be achieved (well i think so) Guessing no metal bands.

I only used normal clamping poles for a few months, then straight onto extremes .

Where did you see about clamping anywhere along the length? The picture I see seems the same as before.

Apologies, that was an old picture that had slipped through on the website - now removed.

There are no metal bands on the new poles.

That's very impressive to be lighter without the reduced diameter along most of the length as before.  Congrats.

Have to say I've gotten used to the middle or full clamping points and do feel the pole extends and retracts quicker because of that.
Also liked the metal bands.

However, good to hear about new improvements.

I like the metal bands on them,I would think the bands would help make the pole last longer due to them not wearing being plastic on metal

I am disappointed too that the metal bands are no longer there as they massively reduce wear,

It's hard to judge as they are not released yet, but I have to say I love my extreme with metal clamping points.

Hopefully this is a forward step and not a backward one. Although either way the extreme range are fantastic, and  I'm still going to be using them no matter what.

I have 2 sections with metal bands and compared to the carbon sections they have next to no wear on them at all well over a year later, maybe that's why, they would last loads longer therefore no need to keep buying a new pole lol maybe thats the point  from there point a view

Surely now you can clamp at any part of the section that will reduce wear a lot.

You will find even though you can clamp it on any part of the section you will still end up clamping it on the same part most of the time hence poles wear out in the same places on the particular poles you use individually, the metal bands on those poles prolong the life 10 fold like I say nearly 18 months to 2 years on mine haven't worn at all

Run the pole hose out side and a quick coat of lacquer now and then. That'll prolong the life.

If they are made of the same carbon material they will wear over time all carbon poles do,like i say we all use our poles in an individual way and clamp them in similar positions daily. Some of us might only have 2-3 sections out alday long for our work some might use every section on each job it varies,I can't really see and advantage of this with a pole that is so light and easy to use you don't need to extend it just a couple of feet I never have if I need a bit more reach I clean it from the side but I hardly ever need to do this. I have a newish section with raised carbon clamping position and a metal banded section, the difference is obvious to see in wear the metal band section is almost like new and the carbon raised section is almost ready to be re lacquered for it to clamp more securely.

Alex can the metal bands be put on because my extreme was bought before you introduced them and when using the pole with some of the sections not put up it spins where just underneath the clamp has worn :(

The metal bands cannot be added to older sections as they have to be built on to the poles in manufacturing.

Why have you done away with the metal bands they make the poles last longer,is that why you've gone back to full carbon therefore can you send me a new section please coz this ones worn out lol.

We have done away with them because the new design has allowed us to make a pole that is lighter, stronger and more rigid. We will be supporting spares for the old sections for a long time to come though.

Having had two years of customer service experience with these metal-banded poles we have also been able to assess that having the metal bands does not make the poles last longer overall - it does prolong the clamping point surface, however the Smart clamps now take care of most wear at any given clamping point. The metal bands did not improve or remove wear from the inside of the sections.

As with all Xtreme poles the new X3 poles are best when used by clients who regularly clean and care for them. I would still recommend to a client who does not want to carry out much cleaning or maintenance to look to an SLX or similar. For those who are happy to clean and maintain the pole regularly, the Xtreme will continue to offer a unique operating experience.
