Lack of confidence in this industry
« on: October 19, 2015, 09:06:41 pm »
Ive been doing now for 5 years calling on behalf of this industry, and I always feel that there is a severe problem with self doubt, some have confidence issues, some are very confident - funny old industry

Dave Ive worked for a fair few window cleaners over the last 5 years, and the confidence issues are quite ripe - to be asked "what shall I wear to go and quote" and along side many other things - its very surprising when you send people on commercial quotes how nervous they get

Some people are just more comfortable than others at certain things, many window cleaners are one man operators with no sounding board and limited exposure to corporate etiquette.

I'm sure you'd be a bit nervous if someone threw you into an army exercise and expected you to gain the respect of your comrades.

I think you'd fail, as by your post you seem to carry a fair bit of contempt for us 'cleaners'

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

I dont think so Darran, and there you have contempt in what you have just said,  So you have actually confirmed your reaction to what I have said I have worked 5 years with cleaners, windows, contract, etc - you have instantly hit out........nobody is knocking anybody, its just what I experience and have experienced for a very long time - certainly not a novice in this field

Are you the one that pops up about once a year and ends up in a slanging match then disappears?

So, this thread and above post is trying to achieve what exactly, ?

Nothing really just relating experiences, as I am sure that you possibly do.  Thats a forum isnt it?

Subliminal advertising probably - not that I blame her.  It's fair game I suppose just reminding people that you're still around.  I would probably do it too.

That's fair enough Walter, but Katy just flies off the handle at what appears to be no good reason and has had many a rambling post/thread which has been great news for becci swan.

Perhaps we should have a thread " why are some telesales people paranoid"

OK, I vaguely remember a thread or two now.
Think I'll get out of the crossfire and have an early night :)

I think she has a point. Whether it's unique to this industry though is debatable. There seems to be a lot of shiners that are JWs and for some reason quite a few recovering alkies. I think Tosh is a recovering alkie who is also a JW so maybe he's who Katy is referring to. He does like attention, perhaps he has confidence issues.

I do find it odd that someone who apparently wants to build a business and strive out in the world of self-employment can't knock on a door to sell themselves.

I think katy has raised a good point as individuals can be great at what they do on the tools but can lack confidence on marketing and gaining new business which is the most important thing in my book. It's very rare bread that can actually  wear more hats than one and be good at all aspects of operating a profitable business. That is why I think most fail within a short space of time.

I don't know about lack of confidence but I do get the feeling that a lot of shiners are embarrassed by how they earn a
living, you just need to look at all the bragging about earnings you get on here which is something you wouldn't get as much of in
other professions.
