Ive just got back from doing my cousins full house in Castleford ..approx 35/40 miles from Sheffield. I would probably have turned it down if it wasn't family but having done it realised its no big deal. 40 mins drive and if the money is right then i wouldn't hesitate travelling now.

Kevin , you wont travel 30/40 mins for a £75 job ?

So if you had nothing booked in your diary you would not drive ......

40mins there, 45mins on the job, and 40 min drive back home is 2 hours and 8 mins total......

and have the potential of a "customer  for life" and a possible referral from this customer ?

That's right Paul. IMO you can't run a profitable business like that. It's not just the 2hrs and 8 mins, its the wear and tear on your machinery, van, diesel etc etc. Take off your business running costs, minus tax, your left with approx £25 from that £75 in your pocket, along with decreased life on your van/equipment.

For me personally that's why I said it's better skipping that day if you only have a possible £75 job to book in, and do something on your business that will make a difference, even if it's a little step because lots of little steps lead to one big one at some point.

Obviously, if you had 4 x £75 jobs booked in then your going to be pocketing approx £100 a day - that's different, I'm just talking about one job.

That's how I see it anyway :)

I have a limit of 30 mins drive away anything longer than that I pass to someone else, have enough work to keep me busy in my area not to need to travel further which is all down to marketing and keeping in contact with exisiting customers on a regular basis.

I travel the 70 odd miles each way to clean friends and their neighbours caravans at Skegness and Withernsea.
Sister in law has a nice little 2nd home at Skegness so usually combine it with a long w/e, wife and her sister in car me in van.
Either drive up Thurs evening do them Friday, or go up Friday do them Monday, prefer the latter.
Usually 3 or 4 to do so worth the extra diesel.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.
