web site WORTH IT?
« on: May 08, 2006, 07:14:26 pm »
i have been building a website recently and now wondering if it is really worth haveing one, i have plenty of work!
so just pick the good stuff now [apart from when i go soft and give in] i mean i just picked up nearly £100 last week without any effort, through recomendation!  ;D
there is not much comercial work here so dont need to add for that!
is a web site of any real value?, do you benifit from it? and so on   ???

It would be interesting to know how many people actualy look for a WCer on the web. I think in the future I may have one purely as an extra facility or support for existing customers

i think it is a good way to keep in contact on a certain level, 90% of web surfers look at a sight and then forget it when moved on!
unless they really want something, but even then forget many sites,
appart from matts!!  ;D  hes in my favourites!  :-*
i have been on yell.com for a while and dont get much if any from it [thats any good to me]  :'(

I think it depends where you are. My site, when it was up, had a #1 to #6 listing on Google and Yahoo with a search for, and any variation of, "window cleaners birmingham" (even without a UK specific search) for nearly 4 years. I picked up about 3 houses!

However, some on here do better, so, like I said, it must depend what area you're in. At the very least, having a web address on vans and stationary looks the business so go for it.

I have a website www.firstcleanservices.co.uk and have only put it together so that any domestic customers have another way to contact me. I think all of you will agree customers are sick and tired of getting a w/c only to find him disappear in a few months and they cannot contact him.

At least with a website its another reassurance that we can be contacted and are here to stay. Its all in the mind  :)

I don't tend to pickup to many jobs purely from the website but i have had a number of customers that have seen my car signs or flyers and checked out the website before calling. Gives them a sense that you are not a benefit cheat just working for the summer for beer money.

Has been very useful to have the extra option of online payments too.

They also get to see that we don't do just window cleaning.

pierre there are some really good programs you can use to make your own site, i am useing serif webplus 9, but i think dreamweave seams to be one of the more popular ones to use!? then you gat a domain name and then a host , google 'web host'
 i think  ;D

I've never had any work generated directly from my website... But I'm trying to focus more on commercial stuff, and I think having a website helps your image as a company.

Carl - I just added the copyright to the bottom of my site... There is no legal process to go through as far as I know.

it depends were you advertise. i had mine done about a year ago and i've spent alot on google, yahoo ufindus.co.uk and many more and i've had at least 5 calls a week just from my website. like today i have been asked to quote a job that is the biggest contract i've ever heard of.
