Filling backpack from van mount
« on: September 06, 2015, 04:00:07 pm »
Which is the easiest way to fill a backpack from a van mount . A mate is gunna loan me one for a couple of weeks to see if the lad gets the hang of it , plus I will let him use the hose as well see which he prefers . But I'm not messing about with barrels , I just want him to be able to fill the backpack from the van while I carry on working . Is there owt I can drop through the tank lid so I don't lose flow while working .  Cheers barry .

Self priming siphon hose is all you need, Have a look at them on Amazon and see which one serves your needs best
length of hose and so on, usually around the £10 mark.

I have a tee piece and hose with a tap on the end, it's long enough to hang out of the van into the backpack to fill up

Thanks for the replies . Syphon hose looks ok . But the tee piece with tap on might be better for using regular . Without sounding too much like a thick northerner . Where do you put your tee piece Darran . Is it between the tank outlet and pump . Cheers barry

I use a 1" male/male hex from outlet, 1" female/male elbow, 1" female/female butterfly valve,  1" male barb then 1" hose going onto barb, all in stainless steel available from B.E.S. Remember the bigger the bore the quicker the backpack will fill. With you needing to come out from a 3/4 equal tee you could maybe use a 3/4 to 1" hex nipple to increase the bore to 1", or you could drill a separate 1" outlet

i just disconnect the hose from the water inlet on my pumpbox(its long enough to hang out the back of my van)it takes 5 mins to fill up to the brim though.
price higher/work harder!

I used to have a submersible pump attached to a length of transfer hose for filling a trolley to get to awkward jobs.  A pair of crocodile clips were connected to it.  I dropped the pump into the tank, positioned the transfer hose and then connected the clips to the battery.  It looked a kludge but worked just fine :) .

You reckon . I  thought about 30 seconds . It's that large reinforced pipe . Should flow pretty quick .  Chuffing hel this backpack malarkeys more hassle than a van mount  ;D

I fill my 16 litre backpack in 14 seconds, that is with 1" fittings and hose.

There you go . 14 seconds to fill his bp . That leaves him  4 minutes 46 seconds for a 3 bed semi . Sorted . What could be easier .  ;D
