Sorry Dave but if you think you have to be cheap to keep the work then I think you are mistaken. I have quite a few houses like this and they pay for my services.

They don't question the prices as generally I have been recommended because of the quality of work not the price. I also charge a high rate because whilst I am cleaning this house which I would anticipate would take hour and half I could be elsewhere on smaller £20 hits which I would clean in the region of 6 an hour.

The one thing to bear in mind is generally people mix in similar circles to themselves and if you do a good job word of mouth counts far more than cost, if you're too cheap people will think your missing windows or not doing the job properly, am not saying this is you in anyway so please don't think I am, just generalising what people think

Sorry my price was for the outside only.

However i also didnt say do everything cheap - what i said was a fair price should be given if you want to get regular work, you see many people think simply because someone has a big house they can afford a massive w/c bill (this house is an exception i agree) however i have lots of big houses near me but the people arnt loaded.

sometimes i read posts on here that seem a little elitest - they remind me of when i first started and some bloke was bosting of £70K plus p/a on his own...well good luck to him is what i say, and Trevor if you can do 6 x £20 in an hour good luck to you to fella....by my calculations your earning at 7 hours a day say £700 a day (not pushing yourself) and 5 days a week = £3500 per week and 48 weeks a year (you need holidays) = £168000 per year... ok lets half it £84K per annum.... Well the tax man must be happy with that Trevor and again good luck to you fella.

However in my opinion realistic figures for any w/c should be what you are prepaired to earn in a day after tax etc i doubt many of us earn £700 a day (or even £350 day in day out) so for me id take £100 to £200 a day and be happy - infact most days are around £150 and thats ok (its about £30k p/a after tax)

assuring all of my best intentions (tounge in check)  and not starting any trouble re money etc ;D

I was thinking the same...10 minutes a clean and hold your hand out for £20...I do not believe those figures.

not sure if the windows are georgian style or those pvc windows with the plastic squares inside the window, if georgian £80 if pvc £60 for regular clean, builders clean 3 times as much (assuming they are really bad) for each inside and out, simply because I dont like doing them and I would want it to be worth it, and if you think how much it would cost to build that place £500 is not very much money

Hi,just thought I would put my two penneth worth in the hat,be very carefull on youre price, the others are saying the high price is too high,I dont think it is,I only do Builders cleans, each window is a bottom opener only, therefore access is restricted from inside, the removal of the stickers will take between 1 min and 3min,you look to have lots on each window, the higher ones you will have to use a ladder with someone to foot you,it could well take you both all day just to do that, never mind cleaning it,thats two people £20 an hour going up and down and moving ladders I would say a day and a halfs work.....wfp will not remove them stickers, white spirit and a cloth will,I have just part finnished a much bigger place converted to 24 3 bed appts,my price was too low for the time it took me,you live and learn... :'(

I quoted a house (£20) today to find out her old window cleaner used to charge her £7!!!!!!!!!!! Even though he has given up she had it in her mind that's what she should be paying, absolutely NO WAY!! Best bit was he had her and her 3 neighbours, identical houses. In the end I managed a group deal of £14 each. So, beware, he may wander down to your new job and probably would charge £15 the idiot! Why do people charge such stupid money and ruin it for the likes of us, god they make me mad  >:(

To be fair though Trev, it's up to him what he charges, as long as he's happy with it.

Could it be that you're one of these very expensive ones on here?
I bet it's a house I wouldn't ask more than a tenner for.
3 bed detatched?

Seems a bit strange that he was a third of your price.

I agree Ronaldo...some of the prices on here are way out of my areas league - i tried to price a 3 bed with leaded windows at £11 last night and the women laughed in my face (i would normally charge £8-9 for this type of house, in the area it was in)

So I now know im pricing about right for the area

I know what your saying guy's and yes I guess to be honest I am able to charge a fairly high price but the house in question had 10 ups mostly double or triple pane windows, 8 double pane downs, plus a bay window with 8 panes and a set of patio doors. I understand that prices vary around the country but my point is that if your charging £8 for a house and some guy says he will do it for £3 you just can't compete. I would love to see his insurance policies, his tax return etc... By the time I have paid VAT, Tax, Insurance and wages it leaves a massive whole in the job price and with his prices I would be paying out of my own pocket. Just wish people wouldn't undercut themselves just to get a pint of beer at the end of the days work.

Well turnover dictates my situation and unless I want to get into hot water there's not much I can do about it. It does make a difference I know but on the other hand a lot of commercial contracts expect it!

Any suggestions welcome  :-\
