Vivaro - when did they become reliable
« on: August 20, 2015, 08:25:37 am »
Will be getting bigger van within next few months and whilst the Transits seem to be the better van for not breaking down Im going to be moving about 20 miles away from my work area, giving the missus a lift into her work so thinking of Vivaro as I understand them to be a more car like van.

What year ... if they ever did get more reliable is the one to go for.

Thinking old shape not the new one just come out.

We have a 2010 the Renault trafic, and apart from a few minor issues it has been fantastic !     Will definately be getting another one when this dies.    Think I will go for th 150bhp model next though  ;D

I was speaking to a guy at a job earlier this week, he had a new Trafic.

He said he had a Transit Custom before and after not too long had no end of trouble with it. Got rid and got a new Trafic. He said it's excellent and really nice to drive.

I suppose if you're doing a lot of miles you need something newer, are you in a position to lease/hp? There's some good deals about.

To qualify for free replacement injectors the van has to be newer than 7 years old plus other things like full Vauxhall service they sorted (so they say) from 2010

Out of the 2 I love the transit, far better than the vivaro for driving and features - when working  the vivaro is nice, but for me the transit is a much better ride

My 2008 is very good but has the 90 bhp engine and it can struggle when full. Deffo go more horsepower. 2.0ltr btw.

I sold my Trafic to a salvage/auction company the other day.  It was '03 with 127,000 miles on the clock. I granted it clemency at the turn of the year - it was resolved eventually with a second hand boost solenoid.  This time it was fuel supply.  I could have spent £900 having the system cleaned out and pump replaced - which might or might not have fixed it.  Where does it end though?
I've replaced with a brand new Citroen Dispatch.  The daft thing is that going brand new was easier than second hand.  No deposit needed and a big balloon payment at the end whereas second hand would have needed at least 20% deposit with the risk of repair bills.  I'm not a great lover of the idea of balloon payments but it gives me another 5 years to sort out my act.  It's not the cheapest way of doing things but sometimes it's necessary to delay paying.
I calculated the cost of running my Trafic over the last three years including van hire to cover down time and factored in stuff like tax relief.  I reckoned that over the next three years, I will only be paying out about an extra £140a month.  However, I forgot to factor in the higher insurance cost for a new vehicle so it will be a bit higher than that.
I barely do 10,000 miles a year and intend to run it after the initial 5 year period.  I have to sell it after 5 years but it can be sold and bought for the same price as a paper exercise I believe.

What's your payload on that Matt?

Understood that they only carried a total of 1100 kilo's

Buying second hand is always a risk, but those between 06 and 10 carry a 1 in 3 chance of having the design fault leading to premature injector failure

1000 litres is 1000 kilos  doesn't leave a lot for fuel equipment and 2 men....

750 would be about the biggest tank you could use in a vivaro

I'm sure I've seen some vivaros with 1300 payload. Mayb it's the long wheel base? Not sure.

I remember hearing that vivaros can take more weight than most in their class.

Did you get your injectors done by Vauxhall ?

Just double checking and best payload for vivaro is 1258 personally I think that's cutting it to fine with a 1k tank

Why do you need a 1000 lt tank Daz, cant you refill during the day ?    Your're gonna knacker your van carrying that weight around over time  :o
