Lucky? Wait till the insurance bend his ear.
Although it's been found as he reported it stolen., they  may have cancelled the policy as he claimed on it. The fact they weren't going to pay out doesn't matter. So, it could cost him a new policy with lost NCD.

My mate had his car stolen ( he had left keys in ignition too ) polive found it, and it had been valeted and number plates changed . . . .so he got it back in better condition  ;D

It will be logged as a no fault/loss claim, as no amount was paid out. You still have to declare it. I lost 20 years NCB for the sake of waiting a week before telling insurance
