i priced up a walk up yesterday.large victorian house with a few large 3 storey windows.after a busy day i was just wanting to get home.got there after work and he was out so walked round and priced it up at £40 (8 weekly)and rang him straight after.he accepted.this morning im thinking i cant be bothered at this price its too low.

im gonna phone him this morning and tell him i want £80 first clean and £60 thereafter(8 weekly).

what would you do?

Next time I would make sure I charged more for the first clean.

Your big mistake isn't the £40 thereafter, it's the first clean price. You have left yourself open to them cancelling after the first clean with no consequence of having paid more.

i want £60 thereafter not £40 mate after having a think.its going to take an hour to clean i reckon on regular cleans plus 5 mins of driving there and back plus ill need to use my 47 footer to reach four 3 storey windows.first clean £80(i reckon 2 hours)

I would second Samson's suggestion. I haven't always succeeded in keeping the work but more often than not they have been ok with it as they suspected it was a low quote anyway.

I think I would stick with my original quotation.  After two or three cleans, you should be going around it a lot faster.  If you then find that it's not viable, discuss it.  That way, you may lose the job but you won't gain a bad reputation.  Usually, reputation trumps swallowing on one job.  I suppose £40 for an hour plus a 10 minute round trip isn't so bad if it's only done three times.  Personally, I think that £40 an hour is OK, but maybe I haven't kept up.

You been in this game long enough Dazmond not to make such a rookie mistake 
seriously though, I've never felt comfortable upping a quoted and agreed price. I feel my integrity is then questioned.
I suppose its up to how you feel about it being your own boss and if as you say you are not bothered whether you get it or not.
As samson has said, apologise and keep it polite as I'm sure you will.

Happened to me the other month, I quoted a job at the end of a day and was tired, said yeah it's X amount , did the first clean and thought this is gonna take a lot longer than normal , did the second clean and thought I cant b arsed for this much so said to the nice lady, I'm really sorry but iv underpriced your job, to my surprise she said- I told my husband you were doing it too cheap, how much will it be now? I said X amount , she said it's absolutely fine - happy days :-)

it's almost as cringeworthy as pretending your hourly rate is £60 an hour and you won't work for less Dazmond. It's good to brag don't you think?
