First Aid Courses
« on: May 06, 2006, 12:11:08 pm »
Hi everyone - i dont know if this is helpful or even useful for anyone on here but i have recently qualified as a PADI Emergency First Response Instructor (first aid and de-fib trainer / primary & secondary care) if anyone needs or wants first aid training i can provide it (and anyone thats a member of this forum i will give a discount to as most of you have helped me at some time or other!).

the course lasts one day (7/8 hours) and candidates are given a certification card after completion and the cert is valid for 24 months from date of issue. I also provide first aid for children (1 to 8 yrs old) training.

if you are a large company i may travel to you for courses of 6 people or more.

FYI - HSE guidelines say all workers especially those on their own should have a personal first aid kit (for window cleaners this = a minimum of a first aid kit in your van/car - i can source these for a very good price also now  ;D )

hope this is of benifit to someone....if not sorry to bother you.

course costs are reasonable and are most definatly cheaper that St. Johns and the Red Cross courses.

Well done dave,

may i be one of the first to wish you all the best with your added adventure, I would highly recommend anyone to do a first aid course, I did mine in the army, and when i was employed as a porter at the local hospital, this was more indepth than the army's.
It Helped save my grandaughters life, so you will never know when you need it. also because i did these courses i also carry a well stocked first aid kit.

UPDATE:

An Instructor friend of mine has just told me she has a course running on 27/05/2006 if anyone is interested in the course your welcome to come - she has 6 places available on it left.

As the venue is booked she will accept reasonable offers for attendance (normal price is about £80 ish per person, but i think she will accept £45-£55 as the people that were booked on as a group have re scheduled)

Venue in Crawley, West Sussex very close to the Train station (5 minute walk away)

Course includes all materials, certification card and training in First Aid, Defib (AED), medical management and Oxygen provision.

Please email me your details and I will pass them on

Some years ago when I worked in the print, I went on one of those heart/lung resuscitation courses down in Brighton. I was amazed to learn that even though someones heart has stopped beating, it is possible to keep the brain supplied with oxygen for quite a time - possibly until a defrib unit turns up.  There are people alive today whose heart stopped beating for quite a while but, because someone was around who knew what to do, they are in good health without any brain damage caused by oxygen starvation.
The daft thing was that the guys who went with me to the course all had a bit of humour.
Whenever I went to inflate the dummy's "lungs", they kept making kissing noises behind me and I couldn't do it for laughing.  However, although it was a long time ago, I still remember the basics of what to do in certain situations.  I've never needed to use it but the point is that I just about know enough to supply an apparently dead persons brain with oxygen until an ambulance arrives.
We've all heard of this term "the kiss of life" - but how many people actually know the details of how to do it?  It's simple and well worth knowing.

I think first aid should be taught in schools.

It is an important life-skill and a little bit of knowledge; even something like 'Don't move the casualty - he's breathing - leave him alone for the professionals', can save life and prevent further injury.

Your all right first aid is a very good skill to have. Im actually teavhing 25 kids next week at their Brownies meeting how to do CPR. Very worth while - especially when the Leader of the Brownies is the wife of one of my commercial contracts!!!
