Hi all,

I've a successful and well-established window cleaning round. My wife was musing about starting a domestic cleaning business.
What sort of hourly figure should she plan on charging - general cleaning, dusting, ironing, washing, inside window cleaning is what's she's considering? Not considering carpet cleaning (too much investment in capital equipment), commercial work (too much competition), holiday lets (ties you up in summer and leaves a gap in winter and also it's on specific days which is never good).

There are always pitfalls to beware of - any heads ups that we might not think about (minimum cleaning session is one I guess).

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

£12.50 - £15 on the posh estates  :D

I cover some contract cleaning, profits aren't the best but if you can get say somewhere that has 10+ hours a day (50 per week )  it can soon mount up

The mother in law runs hers and charges between 12 to 20 per hour depends on frequency etc..

One off cleans are 20 - most of her cleans are weekly and in blocks of 2 hours

When we first started we phoned around to get an average price in the area, we had normal Betty who lives up the street charging 7.00ph no insurance, uses customer products/materials etc and then a high end franchise charging £19ph.
We worked out rough insurance costs, running costs and then came up with a figure in the middle that we could still earn a living and still get work. We charge £13ph including full insurance etc. and all materials. You will always get someone cheaper than you and someone more expensive so just do you workings out and charge what your happy with!

Good Luck!

Thanks Isla. It's just an idea at the moment. £19 ph seems high for cleaning; I would be happy to pay £13 to £15 ph myself, but that would be for stuff that I didn't want to do like moving all the furniture and the telly to hoover behind. And dusting. I hate dusting. £13 sounds doable from a business point of view.

How many chargeable hours per day do you actually manage to do on average? Do custies mind Saturdays being worked (it's no problem for my window cleaning, but inside a property might be a different matter)?

Thanks

My wife is also thinking about starting up in domestic cleaning... We were talking about it today.

We live in an area where there are some large houses, with rich people who are time poor...

I said that she should charge £15 per hour (using her own materials etc..) with a minimum of 2 hours per week for a client... Set them all up on Direct Debit using GoCardless so no late payments etc..

There is no shortage of domestic cleaning work out there!
