Stick a sponge in the downpipe it will stop any crap on the roof getting into your tank, just take it out and clean it
every so often.
Plus try and darken your tank with a cover or whatever to stop algae growing.

Can you wAsh windows with rain water or do you still need to run it through filters?

Or buy a black IBC?

Where I live  (West Yorkshire ) TDS  of my rainwater is around 7. I store it in my ICB  then double DI  it to my van TDS  0.00  :)

Just be careful of the dreaded legionella . I used to do rainwater harvesting until I was off for 7months with pancreatitis never did find what started it but after a lot of research legionaires desease  can start it off . So since then its ro for me and never keep water for long

As long as the TDS is low enough you can, but I would still run it through a sediment filter just to remove anything
that might show up on the glass that's not dissolved in the water.
Plus it would keep any grit out of the tank in your van.
