What Software?
« on: April 21, 2015, 11:12:57 am »
I've been using basic accounting software and working my DB by pulling off spreadsheets and doing my own merges etc. all long winded.
So I'm looking round for new software, I can only see Cleaners Mate or Get Booked Up. I want something that makes it easier for me to work my DB and I'm not too worried about the quoting features. Does anyone have any pros/cons with any of these? And are they available cloud based? As I work from home and office (Mac & PC)

Thanks

I changed from the American Camelot software last year, I had been using that for years, I bought the software outright in the late 90s, but suddenly they made it redundant and wanted to charge a monthly fee for a new version. Now using Cleaners Mate from Kevin, fantastic program with nearly all we need to run our business. We have had a litlle problem with the emaling at the moment, but I am sure Kevin will sort it out. I will post you how it's going. Maybe other have had the same problem, not sure, but if, let me know please.

I use ACT! It is a bit harder to set up but you can change all of the fields to do what you want . If you are wanting one that is nearer to the carpet cleaning business then Get Booked Up or Cleaners Mate will do........ but remember you have to fit your business around their model and I find that ACT! is cheaper and will mail merge etc but you have to program it a bit more.............that's fine for me but not easy for everyone. All of them have trials so you can try before you buy.

Irving............. I looked at that Camelot Software and was really impressed with what it would do, and how easy it was to navigate and I think that you can even operate it from your phone. I understand that they had a problem with Windows 8 hence the upgrade but I was told that you could buy the new version outright if you wanted.

As I said earlier, I got problems with Cleaners Mate and they are now asking me for my password to my email account to help me out. I have decided against it and maybe change software to Get Booked Up, spoke to Allan this morning, he was very helpful and went on my computer remote. Never give your password out to anybody. Now I am not very impressed by Cleaners Mate, how they treat problems. So my reconmendation would be Get Booked Up, seams a lot more professional for me. Downloaded the free software and the emailing working first time. Thank you Allan!, Just a shame, CM worked good and easy to use, but not everything last for ever.

Irvine,

I think you're being very unfair on Kevin and the CM software - it works faultlessly for many, many other users.
I suspect the issue is entirely to do with your PC configuration, and it sounds like Kevin has gone out of his way to personally help you out.

I have no vested interest in CM or Kevin, I simply don't like injustice.

I agree with David's comments completely, I also have both cleanersmate and get booked up, both Allan and Kevin are also friends of mine,

both softwares are really good in their own rights, im not going to start pulling both apart and saying which one I use regularly, as that would be unfair to both of them,  the pair of them have trial versions so trial them both and see which suits.

I've had issues with each software(user error on both  ;D ) Kevin and Allan have both gone out of their way to help me and are always very patient as i'm a complete technophobe  ;D

Maybe I was a little hard on Kevin, he is now doing everything to help me out. I am not a computer professional and as far I know nothing was seriously wrong with that, fully checked by Microsoft Support. I did have a problem because I was running Outlook 64-bits and CM only work on 32-bits and I don't remember I was told. Kevin was very nice to supply me the 32-bits version and now sending single mails with no problems, bulk is still a problem, but maybe I don't understand it, getting old you see. I love CM, general very easy to use, that is why I am pressing on to get it to work 100%, I am sure Kevin will sort it our, just mailed him a back-up of my database, so he can play around. Will let you all be updated.
