Silk carpet clean
« on: April 20, 2015, 12:26:43 pm »
Hi

we have been asked to look into cleaning wool/silk carpet in high street store in Leeds. carpet is badly stained including nail varnish spilled on it -photo attached.
Size 15m by 20m.
Its not a service we would be able to provide.
Is there anyone in the area who specialise and deal with silk carpets.
we can put you in touch with the client direct.
thanks

Elfyn

What makes you think that this is a silk carpet?

Be very surprised a high street store would have a Silk content carpet....probably more like viscose\rayon blend,

If I would have been cleaning a silk carpet of that size which would have a value of around 20k + if Silk I would charging a couple of thousand pounds with absolutely no guarantee of outcome.

Doubt the nail polish will come off, why aren't they making an insurance claim, if Silk they could choose any flooring they liked in replacement and the LA would be more than happy to accommodate. ;)

I go by what description we have bee given so far. Perhaps its best if competent person links in with the premises and takes it forward. Perhaps they don't even understand what kind of carpet it is - might be an option.

From what I can see on your picture, it looks like polypropylene to me , but it only takes a quick test to see

I agree with Stuart, looks like a synthetic to me. Probably has a silky look to it.

There's some silk looking high-end viscose deep-cut-pile carpets about circa £50 per sqm.
You can't clean them with water (i.e. don't take this on if it is viscose).

If you send us the details would be happy to have a look at it  not a million miles away from Leeds, but the nail polish will probably be an issue, call me or email me on 07985560137 or homenclean@yahoo.co.uk

The pile already looks knackard. Is it a high end shoe shop then?

Could also be one of the 'new' Polyester pile carpets...they will have a silky fine appearance... if so stain removal should be easier

David...you are correct with regard to your high end Viscose pile carpets....I have a sample that retails at £450 per square metre.... and its in some high end retailers too
