Self employed tax return
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:58:42 am »
Hi there,

My mrs has her own little cleaning business that consists of just her at the mo so she's just self cert for her tax and only earning about 4k a year anyway, but she is pregnant and looking to stop work soon, we do have 2 other people that can take on the work and they will be self employed and doing self cert themselves.

The confusion comes when we pay them less than we charge our customers so how does she sort the tax on the excess?

Does she need to register the company name?

How does she go about this with HMRC

Also she has been paying voluntary nat insurance, how does she go about claiming maternity leave?

Many thanks in advance guys n girls  ;)

If the self employed staff only work for your wife, then after a certain amount of time she'll have to employ them.  Best phoning hmrc really.

Your original post is a contradiction of terms.

You ask who pays maternity leave then go on to say she has a full time job!  The answer is her full time employer!
She has no need to pay Voluntary contributions she already does through her main employer!
