thinking of getting an ibc for storing water and then transferring into tank in van. What is a decent submersible pump?

I agree with the previous reply's.
Buy one from a local supplier then if it goes wrong it's easy to get a replacement.
Seems as though the price has gone up on these pumps as they used to be £35-£40, but now they're nearer £60.

I bought a hoselock sub pump as a spare from a charity shop for a tenner. Shortly after my sub-pump stopped working, so I used the hoselock one - it's been going for about three years now.

toolstation cheapest one
http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tools/d40/Water+Pumps/sd3220/Draper+61668+Clear+Water+Pump/p98634
or you can spend more and get better flow rate -subject to size of a hose used

If you've got space mount the IBC on a platform high enough so that you can transfer by gravity.
No problem with pump packing up
