OBD PORT THEFT!
« on: March 16, 2015, 08:34:27 am »
OBD PORT THEFT!!!!!! - If you have a vehicle fitted with an OBD port please read up on how to secure your vehicle/OBD port.

The transit customs are the latest targets. OBD protection can cost from as little as £50. Don't find out the hard way and get your van secured!

OBD port theft has been on the news regarding high end cars. Thief's are now targeting mk7 transit's, transit customs and the new transit mk8

Delays in manufacture has caused a spike in theft!

diagnostic port that a mechanic plugs computer into to run check on vehicles systems ... normally found near footwell behind plastic panel ... with correct gizmo you can override vehicles systems, code a new key and drive away

As far as i'm concerned the only OBD theft is from the manufacturers who force you to use it. The MOD got lots of their vehicles without it, and its not like its an optional extra for joe egg. But i digress................, what makes you say...................."Delays in manufacture has caused a spike in theft!" ?

Until one of the mechanics blows their computer up because they forgot that you had moved the original and doctored the replacement. Interesting to see how that would pan out. Probably best to just leave the replacement without wires.

Ford are renowned for skimping on wire in their wiring harnesses, sometimes not even allowing enough slack to remove components to allow for easier disconnecting, so moving the OBD port will be quite a carry on. If you have to extend wires, you might as well extend them with enough wire to locate the OBD port under the dash on the passenger side.

Thieves like this rely on speed of execution, so interrupting this is a positive, especially when the alarm continues to sound after they expect it to be switched off.

Don't worry I don't need to go to ford Im an ex mechanic and have the same software that ford use so sort my own issues out ;)
The alarms obviously a good idea but don't ford factory alarms turn off if you hold the key turned in the door for so Long so might be best buying an aftermarket alarm!
I'm reading more and more of these stories every day about this happening and I suppose when u can buy the software online to do it, these scum are gonna keep doing it more and more!
