Be careful as you may disturb the guttering from the brackets you then have to click it back into place, if you haven't broken it. You can't avoid resting ladder against guttering sometimes.

I have an estate that is full of dorma bungalows with a window part-way up the roof. I built a ladder-stand-off out of wood, you can get them commercially made out of aluminium as well. You put it either under the guttering or as i did, on the roof tiles.

Think the stand off is around £30 at B&Q

I also have a street full of dormers and came up with the idea of a stand off a month or so ago, used it twice with no problems but on the third time i did that street the stand off just opened up and slipped down roof about 3 feet, stand was on tiles and foot of ladder was on footpath. Its fine if it is on grass but not on any other surface so beware or get someone to foot ladder.

If you lean on the gutters put something on top of the ladders 1) to stop it slipping 2) to avoid scratches. There are ladder mitts but those yellow criss-cross gloves will do just as well and much cheaper. Anyway for dormers etc learn to use a pole with swivel squeegee and swivel applicator; tricky at first but after a bit of practice you can do them as well and as fast as if you were up there. Marvellous.

I did see a device at some point that would help ladders on gutters it was like a string of beads that fitted over the stiles and would prevent a slip
