Due to pressures of work, I am contemplating employing.

Couple of questions.

If you can't work due to weather, do you still pay for that day is that lost earnings for the employee.

Do you pay any sort of bonus for new customers gained by the employee.

I have my employees on 24 hours per week, so even when the weather is bad we still manage 24 hours. If because of the weather we don't manage to get 24 hours done Monday to Friday (only twice last year) they are offered Saturday, if they don't want to work the Saturday, I am under no obligation to pay them the full 24 hours.

We are very similar 30 hr contract Monday to Saturday - rained off during the week then they come in Saturday if they can't get the outstanding work done by close of play Friday.

30 hrs were set for the winter, bad weather shorter days etc..

we work any weather so not a problem. if for some reason we can't work the guys have to take a days annual leave.

30 hours is about right, it gives u a bit of flexibility with weather. I would offer no more and with 30 it allows them to claim working tax credits so win win

For those that have contracts, what if you do more hours,, do you pay overtime or standard rate, or do you never go over the contracted hours?

They can work as many hours as they wish, our guys average around 35 hrs this time of year, 45 + from March through to October

Overtime standard rate until it reaches 40hrs in the 4 wky period then it's time and a half

If you're gonna employ then buy some waterproofs for the bad weeks when it rains for prolonged periods otherwise you will eat into your profit margin and your employee won't appreciate not being able to earn

Zero hour contracts get a bad press. They should be beneficial to both employer and employee but some employers have been abusing them.

My contracts are 37.5 hours, Mon to Fri.

28 days holiday is what is required by law.

I pay salary and looking to do bonus package once making more profit we very rarely get rained off I have it in the contract  that he must work a Saturday in place of a day rained off up to 4 weeks in a row then after that I would pay I feel salary balances out over summer and winter. holidays are 28 days per year if full time but you can say when they are taken ie I'm insisting that week over Christmas I'm also paying upto 2 weeks holiday in cash value if he doesn't use them
