When a newbie comes along
« on: February 23, 2015, 03:00:22 pm »
I just been browsing on the dark side of forum, and they not really as friendly, as us guys on the windows, and or as welcoming to newbie type questions.
If a newbie or a simple question is asked most of the time sensible answers are posted.
If a guy asks about setting up, it's all go on the advise.

Do you think that the big boys feel threatened by the window cleaner ? Or his add ons?

General cleaning board ...?

There is quite a click, but really good guys on there ( maybe one who's not ) i think they get fed up with constant (to them) basic questions and idiots giving it large who are clueless.

I personally had great advice off 4 guys on there, one who helped me through my first Ipe decking job which was worth just under 2k - couldn't have done it without his expert advice.

Your right matty they are really quite upset about me having pressure washing as an add on service. The truth is it is an add on! That's just what window cleaners do, they offer other services as well, gutters fascias etc.

Enjoyed peeing them off. (Though that wasn't the intention. Was genuinely asking sound questions)

They see to think this forum is worse and that all us window cleaners are territorial and never give them good advice about window cleaning etx etx

Good fun hearing there jealous thoughts ;D

All I asked were some simple questions. Took them about 4 days to even reply. Even when they did, I got next to no advice. Just jealous angry spurts of emotion.

Poor them.

Anyway must scoot...

....Off to quote a pressure washing job now  ;D ;D ;D

No, I think it's all a miss understanding ere !!!!

Jakey asked a question, how will he get on with a 12 lpm machine. He didn't say anything about anything, replies could of been?........ye ok but it will be slow, but compared to the electric one it will be quicker.

By the sounds of it he don't want a big machine, just something that will move a bit of dirt, I don't remember reading he's looking for hot 30lpm and running a 21" whirlaway

Jakey just wants a small add on that's it really, he hasn't had a proper answer just sarcasm

Now a few weeks ago I wanted a add on, so I asked pretty much similar question, my choice was do I want to invest a lot or do I want to just get by with a machine. Similar to what Jakey wants.
My work is commercial so it's easier for me to get pressure washing worker or add ons as I have customers already asking me.

So with the help of one of the above guys I bought a bigger machine as this is what will suit me, going forward

I remember when I first came on here, and I was 100% trad at the time and one of first wfp set ups I seen was Jakey boys, he was there explaining and sharing his knowledge about bits.

Puzzles me but I reckon Jakey boy must be top dog in his area and there is quite a que to knock him down. 😄

You may we'll be right, we are very well regarded in my area, and very well established, however I don't claim to be the best and always share my advice where I can, hence the wfp video I did...

They were very unhelpful on the 'general cleaning! Forum, I've never once withheld advice on this forum,

They were clearly threatened, I've never understood why people can't just give advice and get on with it. People come across so jealous!!! But why? If your doing a good job you'd never feel threatened.

My area has a lot of very reputable window cleaning companies, but we don't bat each other down, there's plenty of work for all of us!

There is another company on here (won't name) who passes work to me here and then, and he said how happy the customers are with our service.

So I have no idea what they are going in about with regards to being an embarrassment? Weird.

To be fair pal, that's no strictly true, you got advice at the start of a member on there. In fact I'll stand corrected but the entire first page was advice. You asked if the machine you wanted would be powerful enough you was given answer. Just was the answer. You asked about the reliability about the machine or seller you was given a opinion. You asked about chemical assistance you was given a answer. You asked how you apply it, you was given a answer (watering can). You asked if you needed a whirl away you was given a answer (no). Where it fell down was when people started or advised that the machine was not powerful enough of good enough. You seemed to take exception at this and started asking why. So you asked for advice and when some people gave it it kinda turned in to a squabbling match. You also said that people will always ask window cleaners first to clean, drives, you said that's just a fact of life, but that's not true.. The reason people took exception is because you came across (maybe wrongly) as someone who wanted to do the job as cheap as possible and not getting the best kit and in turn jay unintentially provide a poor service therefore giving professional pressure washers a bad name.
Now I'm not having a go at anyone cause I go in to both sections and seek advice and I always get great help. I provide professional pressure washing service, but go in to the window cleaning section for advice on cleaning s/f/g ans conny roofs. When I first asked about equipment for cleaning these I said I was going to buy a 22ft pole from Amazon, should do the job. I was advised against this and was told to get a gardiners clx 22 and some trad gear for cleaning the windows. With this advice did I start saying but why it will still do the same job? No I listened to the expert, professional and more experience guys in that field and bought the kit which was great advice. If I had started saying but why and disagreeing I would probably got the same reception as you did but I didn't so was welcomed. Not having a go at anyone but I think you came across as someone who wanted advice but didn't want to listen to it that's all.
