Flow controler problems!!
« on: February 22, 2015, 04:31:41 pm »
I have the genie in a box for the cleaning warehouse.

The flow controller keeps flashing 'DEL 0' then cutting out. The battery is fully charged.

Any ideas what the problem is?  ???

I'm not 100% as i cant remember seeing 'DEL 0' but check the earth wire...
or have you put the wires on the wrong terminals at any point and blown the internal fuse?(you should habe done this if you have an inline fuse)

Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Im pretty sure i have never put on the wrong terminals, and it cant be the fuse as it works perfectly for about 30mins then displays DEL 0 and cuts out. Then works fine again, and keeps happening  ???

I reckon it doesn't like your battery.  Are you using the van's battery or a separate one?

I had this problem, ended up getting another battery and it was fine for about six months.  Mine (two different makes too) required a top notch battery in good condition.

Thanks Tosh, the whole pump box is only about 3 months old, as is the battery it came with. Ill try a different battery though.

Before you buy, if you're using a separate battery from your van, why not try your van battery first?  Just get some longer lengths of wire and some crocodile clips.  That'll narrow the problem.

And I'm no expert - so you might want to wait a while - someone might post something more helpful?

Yes ill try that...i just phoned the cleaning warehouse and they said its new to them also. They reckon it may loose wiring, but didn't know really.

Hi Mike you got me confused:

The control could be showing
bat
cal
DE
Flo
PS or OC

You may also see bat - On - Off which is the low battery cut of over ride.

You could be seeing bat then  0 which seems unlikely or flo then 0, cal then  0

Tosh and Don are both on the right line.

I suspect battery or connections equally Don could be right if you miss connected the battery after a charge it may have taken out something in the controller.
The fact the system runs for 30 mins than start to cut out suggest the battery is the more likely source of the issue.

Cab you tell me what is the voltage showing at the point the pump stops? ( Push the enter button ) the display will display bat the volts.

Also what is the usual flow rate you work at plus how often do you charge the battery? Lastly what AH rating is it?

These are the standard messages the control will display

1. PS meaning Pump pressure switch Activation
2. DE meaning Dead End.
3. BAT meaning low battery voltage has been detected.  (note current battery voltage is displayed numerically)
4. OC meaning Over current
5. CAL meaning the calibration mode has been selected (link) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kKoskb7l7c&list=UL
6. AUT meaning auto calibration has been selected please see above points 4 & 5. Note while in CAL mode it is possible to manually calibrate the digital control without entering point 6.
7. SET meaning the selected calibration has been saved into the processor memory
8. FLO displays the selected water flow rate currently in use.
9. Err meaning an error has occurred while using Auto Cal. This can happen if the pump is not connected or the Enter button has been pressed to cancel Auto Cal.
10. ON/OFF to enable or disable the low battery cut off see point 3.  (note this feature is only available in the V11 digital)

Hi Ian,

The display is definitely saying DEL 0 when it happens, which confused me also as i looked through the instruction manual and there was nothing referring to this.

Also i am pretty certain the terminals haven't been connect wrong, as i'm very careful not to.

Also i ruled out the battery as the problem, as this happened first over a month ago, when the whole unit inc battery was only around a month old. It didn't happen again then until it happened a few times on Friday, and hasnt happend since.

Also the battery is charging fully up to 13.0v and is charged every night without fail.

HI Mike OK thank you for the info on battery voltage, The message is confusing me as it is not one I recognise, Can you do me a favour if it happens again Take a pic and either mail or post it.

Charging your battery each night will help protect the cells. As a battery discharges the sulpur reacts with the lead plate to create current. Over time some of the sulphur crystalises and hardens on the cell which reduces the ability to hold a charge.
What is the voltage at the end of the day?

I would check all your connections including the fuse holder.

My mate down the road has an old Varistream analogue controller he bought new many years ago. He connected it up through the pressure switch as Spring recommends with their controllers.

After a couple of years his controller started doing all sorts of weird things. When I removed the pressure switch out of the circuit (Shurflo pump) the controller and pump have worked prefectly ever since ( this happened about 4 years ago.) I just put it down to an issue with the microswitch contacts in the pressure switch. It was the only thing we changed.
