fair enough. when i first joined this forum i used to like you, u actually helped me out i dont know if you remember or not, probably 3years ago, nowdays u seem to hate anyone who isnt in the 100%wfp willywaving crew, just saying.

I don't hate anyone, mate.  And I don't think wfp is 'willy waving'; it can be done cheaply; I spent a few years working with a back pack and out of an estate myself.

If I'm to 'hate' anything, it's injuries or death sustained by guys just making a living for themselves.  Falling from a ladder just seems a pointless way - cleaning a window - for someone to cripple themselves doing.

Ian have you still got the bits left? I'd be interested to know how the locking mechanism works and what's to stop it wearing out. They could be lethal when they fail.

I caught a bit of a tv program last night called 24 Hours in Accident and Emergency (I think).  A Channel 4 program.

The doctor there was saying that it's rarely a day where she doesn't see a victim of a ladder accident.

She says it's all luck of the draw too.  She's had people who've fallen 30 foot from a ladder and been okay, yet
remembers one bloke who fell from an attic ladder and really mangled himself.

And then we've idiots here claiming to be just as fast on ladders on some properties, as they would be with a WFP.

As a forum, we ought to make the routine use of ladders something akin to drink driving; socially unacceptable.

ian101, no offence but by the look of them did you  not think they  where on the way out?  scratched and dented  up lol, i use them and buy a new pair every year on principle

only had minimal use ... dented and scratched from living in the van ... everything felt ok when putting up and collapsing so had no reason to think they were faulty .

To be honest Tosh I don't think you have been fair on Jakey, for one he didn't say he was as quick
cleaning windows using traditional methods as he would be using WFP.
He just stated that on some problem windows he would be quicker cleaning them using traditional methods than
faffing about trying to get them up to a reasonable standard using WFP.
I have quite a few properties where the sensible thing time wise would be to clean them using traditional methods as it takes forever to get then right with WFP.
I could also take you into an area tomorrow with about 400 newish properties and I guarantee you wouldn't get
one of these properties to a reasonable standard quicker than you could trad them.
There hasn't been a single WFP operator able to get a foot hold in this area for that reason, I had about 40 properties
in the same area which I eventually dumped because it just took to long.
You had to clean all the top floor openers and wait for the water that had gathered in the opener frame to stop dripping
onto the glass below then when this had happened clean the glass under the opener, then repeat the above on the
ground floor.
Even then I would check some of the worse offenders later in the day to still find run marks on the glass after all that faffing about.
WFP isn't the solution for everybody.

I have a telescopic ladder myself and although mainly used for access I do occasionally clean the odd window from them. I'll heed the warning now

On standard windows, I find trad is faster, especially with this new squeegee I'm trialling from 'polz & bladz'. I find it's faster because you don't have to stand about rinsing, and scrubbing as much, with trad it's literally seconds on each window. Quick mop and then blade off, wipe sills, done.

I think the ladder guys are great, they do it with such a great skill. And often is the case its in the family, been handed down generation to generation. Its in the blood so to speak. They rub with rags and walk with a limp, true Pro's. But it doesn't matter what i think, its what customers think and pay for that counts. And i'm seeing loads of guys with wooden ladders, carts and scrims expanding everywhere. The guys investing in advertising, vans, latest WFP technology seem to be going to the wall. And of course if the going gets tough and you don't like it, you can easily employ young lads willing to go up ladders for you. Definatley cheaper than investing in all that latest technology, and leaves a better finish too i feel !!

Ssshhhh Dave it's not funny mate, I had 2 high falls years ago when working for a national. About 18 ft onto tiled floor in stoke, and about 10 ft in little barr Birmingham. First one I had enough time to react and landed feet first, 10 ft fall was worst, my foot got caught in rung on ladder as it went an took me with it.

Avoid them ladders at all cost & glad u ok
