Really depends on your work load and type, I used to think 2 man setups were the way forward, although never going to be 2x the extra produced should be better than having an extra van. Unfortunately not !
No matter what pairing/crew etc.. I put together they couldn't manage more than 35% above a single man. Then you factor in travel times, some rounds are approx 1/2 hr drive away, now your paying an extra hr for man number 2 just to sit in the van.
I'm not going to talk ££ because arguments will start, but when 4 single vans turn over 170% more work per day than 2 doubles or more importantly a days work is now done in 4 hrs rather than 7 or 8 - cutting wages by half, but allows us loads of time to fit in extras giving us more ££ p/h
However, we will always have 2 man set ups in some vans for commercial work, like schools, hospitals etc... Where it's a one stop day 2 men then are better
In short, work type, style needs to be analysed and vans set up to suit
