« on: February 16, 2015, 01:57:30 pm »
Hi using a harris atm. Its been ok clamps are wearing now though.

Not sure whether to get a clx now or hold out a few weeks and get an slx ? Will I notice a big diff in the two?

The Harris poles used to be good, but the quality went down hill a few years ago and I used to find I was getting through one every 6 weeks due to the clamps slipping.
They can be bodged up, but for £15 I just used to buy a new replacement.

I've never used a CLX but im sure if you buy one you will want to move on to an SLX at a later date.
My advice would be to buy the best you can afford and it will be cheaper in the long term to wait a while and save some more money if you need to, and buy the SLX.

we have a 2+ year old CLX still as good as new, and 2+ SLX (longer) that has worn a bit but is nicer to use.  +1 to the above. Also if anyone knows of a good way to bodge up the clamps on harris poles that would be useful ! :)

i'm not a gardiner pole "fan"but i would say wait till you can afford an slx,its safe and dependable and just lasts and lasts,
it'll be a huge jump from the harris

if i am honest david i use "the chinese poles"but have just gone back to my old slx(doing a comparison regards time saving)
not even going to post my thoughts on comparisons between the two as the trolls come out from under the bridge and start having a go.
back to the op i would go for the slx over a clx for longevity, other poles are available but the slx would suit most people,am still looking for the perfect pole

If your working with a Harris at the moment then an CLX18 will more than do the job, you wont notice
much difference in the whip compared to the SLX at that length.

i went from the clx to the slx to the best(extreme poles)

the clx is a good budget pole at say 22 ft.any higher then id go for the slx.

you ll notice a huge difference going from a harris to a clx.
price higher/work harder!

I don't think there'll ever be a perfect pole, Kev.
SLX is good enough though.

ill hold out for a few weeks with the harris then get whatever i can afford, starting to do a few houses where a 22ft would be better as im using another harris up t`arse of this one as an extension on the odd job.

good on you adam for trying and adapting,i know its a case of what you can afford but knowing what i know now if i could go back i would have saved up and bought an slx 22(which i have now although i use many other brands too)i wouldn't have spent loads buying clx's etc,it might sound like i'm a walking advert for alex-which i'm not,but pound for pound and the longevity of these poles i would go for the slx,at least you can buy sections for the odd taller job rather than a new pole

I'd like to know what brush you are using on the end of your Harris Pole before making any comparisons. Its alright everyone saying SLX is stiffer etc... but you can't compare them unless you are using like for like brushes. You'll find a CLX 22 with an extreme brush an absolute delight !!  ;D My two CLX's (22 and 27 foot) are almost five years old. I've no intention of shelling out for an SLX anytime soon, and i've used them (SLX's).

You can also refurb your Harris pole clamps with plastic bottles, there's vids on you tube of how to ...   ;D

SLX, mate.  I've an SLX and a CLX.  The SLX kicks the bottom out of the CLX.

It's a tough hard-wearing pole too, if you look after it.
