Yes fixed, but not to floor as its too low, mine are mounted on a shelf just above waist height

had unfixed for last 5 years but just putting together a shiny new hose reel which is going to be fixed on a shelf ... revamping back of van over next few days so as improve the day to day job ... plus getting old now to be humping 20 kilos of reel in and out back of van  ;D

Fixing the reels into the van was one of the better decisions of the past five years.  Until you do it, you have no idea how much energy you use taking the reels out and replacing them at every stop.

I have a sealy metal reel with a heavy baseplate and mounting holes
So yes it is bolted to floor with m10 stainless allen bolts, and penny washers
Pushed through from underneath and  tightened with wing nuts
From the top/reel sde to make removing it easier.

Should have clarified.  Ours are now bolted to a large piece of wood that sits behind the rear wheel arches.  Secure in the event of a crash (the wheel arches would have to be sliced in two for them to move, but movable (with difficulty) as a single unit in case you need to use the van's load space (up to the tank).

The biggest single improvement I made to the way I work was to fix the reels.

i have made a tray for reel to stand in,   this is because of the excess water i get from reel.    i get about 2 cup fulls of water after a days work.    nothing dripping from fittings,     do you think there may be a pin like hole in the reel somewhere,   i did buy it second hand ,   dont take it out of van though.     i know you get water drips from the reeled in hose,  when been on wet roads.

otherwise id have it fixed, but atm  too wet

On the roof, tried uploading pic on iPhone but it won't let me, will try on iPad later.
Basically it's turned upside down, 4 x 15mm brass pipe holders on bottom of reel then screwed to 2 brick hangers, 4 x nut and bolts through roof.

Absolutely perfect

Some good ideas there then. In my connect I operate via rear doors but the way they've fitted my new system I may have to change to side doors as new van ports are fixed there!

It only took a couple of days to realise what a ball ache it was to be putting an heavy reel in/out of a van all day.
Bolted mine to floor, much easier. No reel falling over, saves the back.

Mine just sits on the floor and never moves, never had to bolt it down at all. I just have a bungee holding it to the corner of the van and it never budges.

Uncoil the hose down your street, put the pump on and check where it leaks. On our hose reel, the most likely place is the hose connector that links the hose to the inner manifold. We use the clover leaf reels and it will either be on the main 'J' fitting where it is screwed onto the manifold (fibre washer) the male hose barb that screws into it or the hose clamp that secures the hose to the barb.

Of course the other favourite spot is the hose connector onto the hose reel. Those Hozelock 'O' rings don't last forever and can be easily damaged/nicked when uncoupling the hose from the reel.

I have had a grippa system installed in December they come with the option to have the reel inside or out as standard. The reel is held in with floor mounted ruber push down clamps.
