Life expectancy of fascia fitters?
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:44:30 am »

Watching this guy yesterday tip toeing out to the end of the ladders in mid air then trying to stand on the windowsill.
Couldn't work out how they were secured at the other end but his mate climbed up later to balance it. Whole lot done off ladders including gable ends.
I think I'd rather work in Macdonalds this time of year ;D

3rd world.

My thinking is if they have that kind of carefree, lack of concern and attitude about their well-being why would they have a better one about their work standards? The fascias may stay up but it'll be more down to luck than judgement.

The idea isn't that bad in theory, if he had proper boards to stand on.
I had my fascia's done last year.
Over the conservatory looked similar to the pic but they were on proper boards.
They were fine.
And the work was spot on.

He is ment to have catwalk bords running across with a hand rail.
Out of pure laziness his used the ladder to go across because it's lighter to lift of van and set up.if his working for any of the big companies he would be sacked instantly.

i used to fit fascias used to have ladders line up along the gable end crossing over from one ladder to the other high up had my son and thought this is too dangerous

they now do those walkways with railings we had to use them for council work but for the money they pay something like £11 per metre of fascia soffit gutter and all the silly things like gutter brackets every 40cm it just didnt pay. glad im out that game still got friends in the industry by best mate works for biggest firm rounds ares he had no work from nw year until feb 7th its dying trade and most houses have been done now i used to earn really good money from it on domestic especially if you got a decent few foreigners

I do some that are similar to the pic, but not when there's ice, water or wind around. And I wear steel toecapped, grippy boots.

apart from the h&s issues richy, what strikes me more as them being cowboys or cutting corners is that theres no signs of the first two rows of tiles being removed to replace the rotton felt, job done on the cheap i feel
